I like Whitecloud or Mayfeild

Whitecloud is signed at a team friendly number through the 27-28 season. Vegas will likely be cap crunched that entire time. Makes zero sense for them to move him. It would need to be an overpay that wouldn’t make sense for the Penguins.

Mayfield just seems too slow to me, but I think he'd find a fit. Whitecloud I like a lot. Peeke as well, Mason would be a big get. Savard could be a cheap reclamation from a terrible Montreal team, Peeke is a fun idea as a big defenseman who would get more offensive zone draws paired with Matheson.

The habs arent retaining a cent on savard. He is a fine 4-5 RD just being ask to do too much. Theres no reason for the habs to trade him he is not overpaid by market standards.

For sure they wouldn't want to, but if they NEED to move cap they might be able to be coaxed into it. I just think these are guys that could be available, while also fit next to Matheson and be what the Pens need in terms of age and stuff.

didnt say they would, just said he had value with retained money. He doesn't have a ton rn and retaining money always gets more value. They really don't need him and he should be sold, he's not played well this year at all.

Kind of depends on what the plan is going forward, but I think the Habs probably hang onto him, for the following reasons:

1) they're not going to get anything for him in a trade;
2) they can make better use of their retention slots;
3) they'll still need veterans on the team; and
4) like it or not, the Habs need to have at least one bilingual player on their roster.

Makes a lot more sense for Montreal to just keep Savard for now.

Ya.......no. the habs have no reason to move him. He is french, plays a coveted position, has a reasonable cobtract and wants to be there. The only way they trade him is if a team castly overpays for him without retention

Another important point is that if Petry is dealt, Savard is the only RD under contract for next season in the org.

As far as Mayfield, I think that the Islanders should only move him if they're blown away. He's a big penalty-killing RD3 on a very affordable contract with an extra year of control, so he's a very attractive asset. If someone wanted to move a 1st for him, I think it would move the needle; if I was Lou and knew that I'd probably have to play against this guy a bunch next season too, I might try and drag out next year's 5/6 as the in-division tax.

If it seems like a lot, it is - the Islanders don't really have anyone in the AHL that's on Mayfield's level, plus the worst case scenario is no one meets that ask and they're "stuck" with him next year with a $1.45M cap hit.

The Jackets cannot afford to lose Peeke under any circumstances short of getting a direct replacement or upgrade; we're already critically low on anything even resembling a defensive RD (that's arguably our top organizational need - even above #1C, since we at least have credible prospects for that.)
