If I'm the Pens, I'd ask for something extra in the Okposo trade in order to take on that contract.

Explain to me why we should trade Okposo for Kapanen?

Getting younger and it also replaces Olofsson considering I've seen him in many trades. You do realize the Sabres are rebuilding right?

It doesn't make sense. Okposo is a veteran who is important in the dressing room, he wears an A, he has a good season and plays in all situations. That's right, Buffalo is rebuilding and we need a player like Okposo for the locker room and right culture.

In the last Okposo trade, it makes more sense because Zucker is also a great locker room guy

I'd swap Okposo with Olofsson honestly. Pens don't need his contract and Buf wouldn't wanna move him bad enough to add or retain a lot. Also if they can get Crouse, which idk at that price, but don't get Namestnikov too. Replace the trade with detroit with a move for a RHD to replace Ruds in the lineup.

The problem is the pens currently have a really good 3rd pair in Math and Rud, with a good third pair in Marino and Petterson. They need a second pair imo and Ruds still has a ton of limitations as a player, he's played well given expectations, but he's kinda inconsistent and can get exposed, and will in the playoffs, as we saw in the Wash game. If they get a good defensive RHD who has some size for Math, than they could be a great second pair and thus making Petterson and Marino look better too since they will be the sheltered 3rd pair. Marino and petterson have struggled a decent bit too recently.
