Niemela is a top prospect for us here. From what insiders have said, Manson isn't going for a "kings ransom" like Chychrun, Klingberg, Petry, etc, would be. Having Dermott adds to your 3rd pair, and a guy who can play now. Hollowell is making progress and his ceiling is a top 4 defender. Package thoe guys with this year 1st, that's a pretty generous offer. Or if you don't want Hollowell, we got a lot of B level prospects in Abramov, SDA, Holmberg, etc.

Undersized 19 y/o RD puttin' up pointzzzzz on the bigger ice surface in Liiga. Certainly a fun potential piece for the Leafs, but gotta imagine it's boom or bust when he hits North America.

I'm not against the original offer. Mac may never be a full time NHLer, but getting that 1st is the most important thing right now, IMO.

reason that im so high on niemela is that last year he wasn't putting up points like this, had to be very responsible defensively as an 18 year old in a mens league. This year, very responsible defensively AND is racking up points. So he's not a pure offensive prospect which is why he doesn't seem as boom or bust to me. That said he's boom or bust as in like top pairing vs bottom pairing D, but I do think he's an NHLer one way or another in his career

Hard to say. Realistically the only 2 contracts that could potentially affect those guys at this point would be the last year of Silf/Rico, and I wouldn't be super worried about them. Comer will need to do a lot to get a big raise at this point. Worst case, start putting feelers out on potential extensions for the other 3 and see where you're at. I don't think you're getting Boeser long-term for much less than Forsberg though, to be honest.

I don't know. I guess I'm looking at it as a "There's a pretty big difference between undersized on an olympic sized ice surface and an NHL one". Again, no critique on Niemela, and he could come in and be excellent, but I'd like to see him play in NA.

I've made the half-serious offer of Niemela and a second for Manson @1/2 to knowledgeable Toronto fans (@Saskleaf @LeafsFanForSomeReason GenXHockey) and gotten whole laughs for it.

My problem is personal bias. I had Niemela on my mock draft where Sam Colangelo went.

Leafs maybe consder Niemela if they have a window before the trade to negotiate an extension with Manson on an AAV that doesn't further hinder this team in the offseason.

If they Leafs can extend Manson, they might consider the counter offer, but even then it seems unlikely that deal gets made.
