Ya I don't understand why people want Ty Smith. He's not a bad player by any means but he's an undersized LHD (I know he can play right side but that's not ideal) who struggles defensively and has seen his icetime decline as a result.
I just don't see what he would bring that we can't get from Rathbone once he is healthy.
Ty Smith 2020-21 was great.
Ty Smith 2021-22 looks like a different guy.
He started the year off with an injury, which could be a factor. Was also given a different role, also a factor.
But it’s not like he is doing one thing wrong. It’s everything appears a little muted, he is more cautious, more hesitant. Bad luck, like pucks hitting bad ice and jumping over his stick, seem to follow him. Maybe it’s a confidence thing. Hard to tell what is up. He has been better as of late. I don’t think the Devils should sell low on him. And with Quinn, OEL and Rathbone, the left side should be covered for next few years in Vancouver anyway.

McLeod is not good lol
His offense never fully developed due to his (lack of) stick-handling ability and possession skills. He got by in juniors as a puck-pusher since he has A+ speed. But didn’t fly in NHL. Early in career, he would still try to skate through people. This year, he has really matured, accepted his role, and thrived at it. He is probably our best forechecker with Miles Wood out, one of our fastest skaters, very solid defensively, and one of the best at face-offs in NHL. As a top-6 offensive option, he is not good. As a 4C, he is very good.
