Two really bad trades for the Jets. If the Jets are trying to re-structure their them they shouldn't be bringing in plugs and selling low on players.

From the Avs side, Dubois is the type of player that could pry away Sam Girard, assuming Colorado felt comfortable with whatever PLD’s extension will look like. I’m not sure if Winnipeg would be so quick to flip a guy they just acquired a year ago, though.
Also, I love Tyson Jost, but he tops out as a defense-first 3C.

How is moving Schmidt bad? We are log jammed at LHD. Dubois is expendable because we aren’t a contender. Getting a RHD that we need like Barron is worth giving him up. Jost isn’t the same player but we can draft another centre

3C would be his landing spot once we draft another centre

COL would have to give similar money to PLD that they would to Kadri possibly more still have to sign all their own FA’s and be out their top d prospect a 1st and a depth forward. They have Newhook to slide into the 2C spot if they don’t re-sign Kadri so I don’t really see the Avs doing something like this.

Makes 0 sense for Winnipeg to move Dubois. I’m not sure where the OPs head is at. He’s the jets 1C of the future. Scheifele is the more likely trade option considering the jets aren’t contending, he’s getting older and he’s only got two years left on his deal after the 2021-22 season. Now if the jets had any talks with COL in regards to moving them a top C, the return would have to be very nice considering it’s in the division.

What would COL have to offer for Scheifele? He’s the perfect 2C, on Colorado he probably scores in the 87-97pt range. He’s a consistent PPG player.

Yeah, Jets need to keep Dubois. That doesn't mean trade 55 (I think there's an underlying issue going on that we don't know about) but trading the team's best C right now (who's super young) is not the play.

It's what you're giving him up for that makes the Schmidt trade bad. Schmidt plays RHD and the Jets don't have the right side depth to move him for a plug.

Dubois being expendable is just silly. I guess why would the Jets want good players, is your thought process? A 23 YO 1C is never expendable, he's exactly what the Jets should be targeting, age wise, in trades.

That retention on Schmidt is terrible for Winnipeg, need more then that for that kind of retention and retention like that isn't something that happens very often if ever, doubt the Bruins would be interested in that anyway.

Boston was not interested in Schmidt when they could have had him for far less. The fact the he’s so much better on his offside and better offensively than defensively does not help them at all either.

There are better ways for Boston to spend assets.

So if Dubois is expendable cause the Jets aren't a contender
(I agree they're not a contender) then why keep so many of the rest of the lineup? Might as well start selling off other pieces and rebuild then no?

You don’t think Perfetti or Lucius will develop into a top 6 option?

Because we will be better long term. It’s a much better idea than trading Scheif who’s better and on a better contract

Wouldn’t keeping PLD and convincing Wheeler to waive be the better option? Eat Wheeler at 50% and get a pretty decent return.

So committing to scheifele long term who’s close to 30 instead of Dubois who’s 23 and already a 1C makes us better long term? Makes 0 sense. Plus what happens in 2 years when mark wants 10 million dollars, won’t be a better contract for an older guy.

I don’t see any scenario in which PLD is traded unless someone runs him off (which is unlikely). I wonder what a 50% Wheeler would cost. He would be an ideal candidate for the Canes and his contract would end when Aho’s is up, freeing up money for Aho.

Honestly the only way I see wheeler going anywhere is if scheifele is traded. Honestly I could see a package with scheifele and wheeler together being moved to a team. Wheeler at 50% and scheifele bring a 10.25 million cap hit. Both of their deals end at the same time so works out. Would canes have any interest in a package like that? Jets could take some cap back.

Also agreed on PLD. He’s been awesome for Winnipeg and will only get better considering he’s 23. He’s the center of the future for the jets.

Both being negatively rated for defense would be hard for us to do but we could afford both. I don’t think we would offer a deal that would make it worth it for the Jets. Let Gardiner go to the Jets and ride out his last year of LTIR, add Bear, and go from there. We aren’t going to want to pay any roster forwards so I don’t see Winnipeg interested.

Yeah, I’d imagine jets would be rebuilding if they moved them so prospects and futures would be ideal. Wheeler isn’t that bad defensively, it’s scheifele that’s the issue.

Their #1 interest would likely be Jarvis which I’d imagine is a non starter for the canes.

It is unlikely that Jarvis would be in any deal that doesn’t involve PLD. Jarvis is the first rookie player we have had that has played on the first line. Svech and Necas were 3rd and 4th liners their first year. We hold Jarvis pretty high.

What would a non Jarvis package look like?

I don’t know CARs prospects that well. Jets need RW and RD in a trade involving scheifele. Prospects and picks would be ideal.
