No, that's just an self-defense mechanism whiny Leafs fans have put together to avoid talking about the embarrassment of last season. Losing in the Finals and losing in the 1st round, or Robin Round, is not the same.

He isn't declining, his advanced stats show this is a down year for him where puck luck, injuries and bad partners have dragged him down

These bad partners that are all somehow top 4 defenceman on better teams? Petry has struggled whenever he had to be the main guy. Weber gave him easier matchups and it inflated his stats. This season he's been the same as everyone in Montreal. Just awful

Kulak, Clague, Niku and Romanov (who until recently was playing like a bottom 4 guy) were his most used partners. The Moronic coaching staff seems to favor Chiarot-Savard together over splitting them up and allowing partners with different strengths to help cover for their weaknesses. you can't have 2 defensive D men on the same pairing and expect that pairing to be strong. You have to have one mobile D and one positional D on each pairing.

I imagine arguing that a team is better than another team when your team is last in the league is so embarrassing that one would just somehow convince themselves that it's some sort of badge of honor and then spend their days arguing their players on the worst team are all worth major packages because they are actually awesome players who are contributing to the worst team in the league. I am sure that was hard to follow. And now you know how everyone talking to a Habs fan right now feels like.

Imagine talking to someone who thinks he has bragging rights because his team is having a better season than the other and spend their days on CF trashing the other team's players while 6 months ago they were beaten and sent home by this same team and had their dream of reaching the 2nd round crushed once again. And now you know how everyone talking to you right now feels like.

Even if the Leafs win the cup this year, you'd be here saying the real win was when Montreal won a series that time. Last place, your team was entirely just Price. No one else matters, you don't have him and it's the worst team in the league. All the credit goes to him. No one else.

I get why you started trolling today as I have been watching the thread but as you have seen I am not engaging in that part of the discussion.

That is a big if. If they win the Stanley Cup, I will recognize them as the Cup winners and admire their performance, deservedly. And what team does Carey Price plays for? It's a team sport no? Did Carey Price score goals? I don't remember him scoring any goals, and you need goals to score goals to win a hockey game, let alone a series, or two, or three. Now if you want to say that the guy who is paid to be their best player was, indeed, their best player, that is your right.

I am sick of hearing how all Hab defenceman are better than Leaf defenceman despite being utterly awful this season. Chiarot has never been overly good and this season he's been completely exposed as a liability. And yet he's worth a major package and the Leafs need him because he was on the ice while Price made ten bell save after ten bell save vs TO last year in the playoffs. It's just tiring.

Here's the reality, Bergevin sucked as a GM. He made major mistakes but got lucky getting the best goalie of his generation only to squander him by never giving him a real team to play for. Sure he single handedly took you on some runs but in the end nothing really happened. Now you guys keep trading Chiarot or other aging vets who are not needed and want 1st rounders and top prospects because "he shut you down last year." It's nonsense. Montreal has some major issues on the horizon. Major long term money tied up in bad contracts that will be immoveable but you'll counter with some dumb chirp about winning last year. It's just silly.

TO outscored Montreal in the round, they kept them to 2 goals against per game. Price was the difference, that and Perry's knee. I am not excusing the loss, they should have won but Price did steal the series.

I agree that MB was a moron and he didn't build a championship quality team. However I don't agree that is was JUST Price that got us to the finals. I think after game 4 of the Toronto series the team had nothing left to lose and just started to work together and yes they were lead by Price but they also started to refuse to lose. It was a Cinderella run for sure and for sure without a doubt lead by Price.

As for Chiarot, he isn't as good as all that but isn't as bad as many others let on on this site either. The real problem is when pundits like EF say he will for sure return a first then fans automatically think that's his value. The problem is its not his value but most teams overpay at the deadline. Chiarot is easily a 2nd pair D man, too good to play on the bottom pair 10-12 minutes a night but too bad to play on the top pair against the best players every shift as well. Most GM's would give up a 2nd + 3rd or 2 2nds to get him in the offseason but when the DL comes around they love to overpay.
