I like the premise for the trade, but I don’t like the pieces the Canes would be giving up. I do think that Laf would flourish in the Canes system, but he would also have a chance to play top 6 minutes on his natural LW immediately. NYR are weak at RW, Canes are weak at LW. Jarvis would be a no go. Necas, I would rather not trade, but if the Canes are sure that Laf would be a definite upgrade over Necas, I would still hate it, but I can understand why. Laf won’t have a chance in the Rangers top 6 at LW until something happens with either Kreider or Panarin, and those are contracts you don’t want in the bottom 6. But right now, Canes say no deal to that. Too much risk now, now enough reward now. In the future, whose to say that this won’t be a good trade, but right now, Canes would be giving up the better pieces for a maybe. Just not worth it right now, when we are gunning for a cup.
