The way Pavelski is playing this season, a top-5 prospect should definitely be on the table along with a 1st. Pavelski is currently on pace to shatter his career high in points & potentially break his career high in goals as well. For a team like Colorado that SHOULD be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, they should be go all in for a guy like Pavelksi who would be a MASSIVE boost to their top-6 & their top PP unit going into the postseason.

Does Compher not hold any significant value or something?

Yikes, a 1st and a prospect for a really good rental who's days in this league are likely numbered

If he were a declining veteran, I'd agree with you, but Pavelski is on pace for nearly a 100-point season. He's not your typical rental. He comes in and makes a massive impact immediately. He's the kind of guy that comes in and gives a team a substantial boost to their Cup run & with the way he's playing, he's likely still going to get a short 1-2 year contract after his current deal is up.

Pavelski gives a team one of the better forwards in the league right now & he gives a team early negotiating rights to a contract extension.

Yeah, if there was a contract extension in place maybe I'd think differently

He is still a rental you don't give a top 5 prospect, 1st round pick AND a quality 3rd liner with years of term left...

Then get rid of the 3rd liner. Dallas has plenty of those in their organization. But a 1st & a top-5 prospect should absolutely be on the table for just about any organization that's looking to trade for a player of his impact

If he had term sure but you don't get a top prospect AND a first for any rental.... you get 1 and maybe a little sweetener but not both...

Exactly, that's why there is no Shane Bowers or Justin Barron in this deal
