Thing is, what is Hertl signing for with the cap issues MIN has? 8th year will help lower AVV, so 8x8?

Sharks fans have been adamant that they need a top center prospect if they're moving Hertl and that Fiala is a non-starter. So take that for how you will.

I think this only really makes sense for us if we get an extended Hertl. Fiala is an RFA and while it will be difficult to keep him this offseason, it's not impossible. This is really risky if Hertl is just a UFA, and not a risk that I'd be too happy taking.

An extended Hertl would be worth Fiala and C prospect.
I wonder if EP is available instead though... or rather acquirable

With how little depth scoring the sharks have I think they would take that honestly. They are currently very one line heavy. Having to resign him makes me nervous though and whether the sharks can afford it. I would prefer a top prospect, center or right defense but from most comments I see Minn fans don’t want to part ways with anything of value there.

I think it's an issue of needs, not value. Value is there imo.

I agree personally. I think Fiala is a good fit for them, but every Sharks fan on here disagrees with me.

As for prospects, I think you're right. We can't really afford to move any of our top prospects since we need their ELC deals to get through the Parise/Suter buyouts. I just don't see how we could acquire Hertl (or any rental type player, Miller might work if Vancouver retained half his cap hit since he has another year on his deal) with a top prospect and pick and then re-sign him. We have about $14M in cap space and have to re-sign Fiala, Greenway, Kahkonen, Goligoski, Sturm, Bjugstad/depth forward, another depth forward, and a depth defenseman. Cap is very tight, and the buyout dead money only gets worse after next year.

Wild have a stacked prospect pool I would think they have to move one to get a top center. It would have to be someone with term and maybe some retention even. Not many options in free agency. I guess it would be Hertl, kadri, strome.

It's a good pool, we just can't afford to move a top prospect. $14M in dead cap really handcuffs us. Can't afford to get a free agent center either unless Fiala is moved for a huge futures package

Are they looking to move Dumba in the offseason? Coming in to this year Ristolainen got a 1st, 3rd and a player. I’d imagine Dumba gets a better return if they moved him. Would get $6 mil in cap there

Doubt it. He makes sense on paper, but apparently he has been a huge factor in changing the culture of our locker room. Maybe for the right return, but I imagine Guerin views him as a very important piece for the intangibles he brings. I could be wrong of course, that's just my best guess based on Guerin, Evason, and our beat writer Michael Russo's public comments

Value is probably fine but SJS wants a young centre as the main piece. So unless Boldy is on the table I think you'd have a hard time coming to terms. SJS could be interested in Kahkonen? Wild probably want him as interm until Wallstadt is ready tho

Boldy is not a center, I have a really hard time believing he'd be on the table regardless because of how good he has looked after being called up (and he's cheap talent). Don't see us moving Rossi for a rental either.

Kahkonen is an interesting idea. Obviously Wallstedt is projected to be the goalie of the future, but Kahkonen has looked solid overall in a starting role. I'm not sure we'd trade him now though since Talbot has been dealing with a nagging injury, if we move him it'd likely be in an offseason deal (which won't work to acquire Hertl as a rental of course).
