Jost is at best a 3rd liner, not that great of a return at all. I think it’s a massive L for Philly actually.

That should be an easy no for the Avs.

Philly gets a great bottom 6 guy who is great on the PK (he's also VERY young), an quality defenseman prospect, a middle-6 option prospect, and a 2nd. Kaut and Jost add up to roughly a 1st, Barron himself is worth a 1st, and the 2nd is added on there. Helm is negligible, as his cap hit is miniscule for Philly, and it expires after this year.

This is more than enough for Giroux, especially as a rental who we probably won't be able to re-sign. You're not getting a McDavid-level return for him.

Also, the Avs decline in the first place. Giroux is not what we should be looking for at the deadline, we need middle-6 pieces, not top-6. Also, defensive depth could help.

Don't get me wrong, I would be ecstatic if we were to get him for a decent price (it'd probably guarantee our victory). But I think that Philly is going to make us pay Barron and a little extra no matter what.

Of course you aren’t getting a McDavid or Eichel return for giroux that’s not even what I’m suggesting and not that this trade is in the same universe as that. There is no 2nd involved, it’s a 3rd and a late one at that. Kaut at best is middle six, more projecting towards top 9. Again I get jost is young but the ceiling is low with him.

I'd offer Helleson or Behrens, Compher, and a 2nd for Giroux though.

IK Kaut is middle 6, that's what I originally said. Jost's ceiling may be low, but the point is that he's a low-risk bottom 6 option who will be playable in his current state for a decade (if you can lock him up long-term). Think of him as a younger Casey Cizikas.

Giroux has complete control over where he goes so the Flyers have a choice:

1. Send him where he wants to go and get what they can while they can
2. Keep him because they don't like the offer and see him walk for nothing

This is a very strong offer considering Barron is a solid prospect that will be NHL ready next season and Jost and Kaut can be good, cost-controlled bottom six guys.

I can't see Philly accepting that offer. I think a 1st + Barron + Compher gets it done

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you. Something is better than nothing; Giroux has total control over where he goes and a good prospect plus two NHL-level players is not an insult. There is nothing left for you to "see" other than your own home-team bias.

Yeah you know that would make sense if I was a Flyers fan, not even close. If you want to talk about home team bias I would think the guy with avs in his username would be more likely in this case. I can articulate your thought process of the trade. That’s what you believe, good for you. A high caliber versatile player should be traded for a good prospect and a couple fringe 3rd line/4th line throw ins in my opinion.

LOL, you still don't get it. This isn't a "hockey trade" it's a "Giroux wants to win a Cup" trade. He has near total control in where he goes. If this is the best offer and Denver is on Giroux's list, Philly would take it, no matter how underwhelming you think it is.

He's still a good player, 33 points in 37 games on a bad team. Wins FO's, plays good D. Definitely more than an average player.
