Description
In what world are the islanders in a cap crunch. I used all the contracts you mentioned (taking gio instead of giroux) and this is what i have. No need to move varly at all aside from getting value bc we already have sorokin.

you have 230k and cant roster 23 players. injuries happen and you wont be able to call anyone up.

FYI. Cap will likely be flat considering arena attendances and restrictions in the league this year. 82.5 is optimistic

IDk how bonuses work when your team is on LTIR but Islanders could have a bonus carry over of $1,685,000 (This year is $1.3M). So that isnt even factored in.

So i say you are $2M over the cap next year

Bettman confirmed in December that cap is going up to $82.5m next year...

Isles don’t have any bonus carry over because they traded Boychuk to Buffalo

Theyve already said the cap is going up 1 mil but i see youre already reaching. I was also pretty generous on the contracts so you couldnt say that i was underpaying people. You also obviously have no idea about something called accrued cap space. Cap space in the league isnt calculated yearly, its calculated daily. That means that whatever cap space we have, as the season goes on it becomes more and more because we save it up.

As for bonuses they only transfer if either you choose to move them to the next season or you have someone on ltir. Since neither are the case theres no issue.

Since then huge money making teams like the leafs and montreal have had no fans. Oilers and Flames at half capacity.

Pre-pandemic season average attendance was 17,380 Source
Current season : 15,882 Source

I mean islander's have used LTIR capspace this season. no cap expert but cant be good if you need to use your LTIR pool and have bonus overages. FYI I know capspace isnt accrued yearly and its daily

I think it does. But either way the point of this post was he was saying in a different acgm that the isles are in a cap crunch so i made this to show that they werent.

fwiw the chances of dobson actually getting a 5.1 mil long term deal are slim to none, he most likely gets 2-3mil on a bridge contract which also opens up plenty of cap, not to mention ryan pulock will be off LTIR shortly and the bonuses won’t matter

Comparable is Noah Hanifin. Similar points this year and wouldn't say he is over paid.

And I thought Draisaitl was pissy

hanifin’s a good comparable if they were going long term, i just don’t see it happening. he’s had a solid month but cooled off after the long break, if he’s more consistent and has a 40 point season i could maybe see it but they’ve bridged every defenseman on the roster pretty much, i don’t think he’s proven enough for them to trust a long term deal.

Ya maybe. Lou is a good negotiator with the younger guys aka Barzel.

In the end he is young and if he stays at this production no harm done all term but assume he grows and it's a home run. Bridge may cost more in the future

very true, i would not be opposed to a hanifin type long term deal for dobson, i think it's pretty likely he'll live up to it. probably a smarter play than the bridge, but lou's been all about the bridge contracts. we do have the cap for it this year though so maybe that changes.

Lou signed Zaitsev after 1 year in the NHL, I think its possible they go long term with Dobson. I also think Dobson will score more than 10 goals this season, so he'll get paid either way. There won't be any 2.5 x 2 type deals, he's the PP1 QB, scores goals and players 20+ min per game.

No I’m in an islanders fan I would way rather someone better offensively to play on the 4th line instead of giving it to 35 year old grinder who isn’t good really anywhere just solid at best

Well I’ve watched every game the past 3 seasons, am into analytics and both the eye test/analytics back me up plus you’ve provided nothing in your response to forward this argument
