STEP 1

Resign Hertl. Hopefully, in an ideal world that also has some likeliness to it, Hertl is traded at the 2022 deadline and you have your #1 goalie of the future in Swayman for this season and a late 1st. Hertl sees that SJ is making prudent moves for a good bounce-back reset season for years to come with established friends like Meier, Couture, EK65, new guys (Konecny/Chytil/Pavs) coming in, and a plethora of impact young guys coming this season and beyond (Eklund, Bordeleau, Robins, Coe, Merkley).

STEP 2

Acquire Konecny. Konecny and Labanc are extremely similar both in their analytics and in their roles and play. Labanc can use a change of scenery and Konecny gets a fresh start elsewhere since he hasn't looked the same with Voracek gone and PHI gets a quality 1st rounder prospect in Wiesblatt and a 2nd in addition to the near-replacement level play in Labanc (slightly lower cap hit too). Moreover, PHI will likely sign hometown-boy Johnny Gaudreau in the offseason to fill that role too.

STEP 3

Bring back Pavs. This is a bonus step and not an absolute priority. I could see Pavs agreeing to a smaller cap hit at 6mil if it means getting a 3 year deal in exchange (instead of a likely 2 year deal that most teams will offer). I think he takes that slight hometown discount to play in a place he knows too well as a 2nd home. He also gets to play again with Burns too who he has an insanely great rapport with as he tips in so many of his shots for goals. If not Pavs at 6mil for 3yrs, then SJ should get another top-9 guy in addition to Konecny in free agency like Rakell or even Kessel, ideally on 1-3 year deals as guys like Coe/Robins should be fully ready by the season after.

STEP 4

Buyout Vlasic. One of my all time favorite players but SJ has young guys at LD who can be either at worst replacement level with ELCs or very likely better with more energy and higher ceiling. Plus we use that cap space to resign/bring in other guys.
