Description
Giordano takes a money hit to have a shot at a cup.
TDA wanted more money than we wanted to give and we were afraid of his arb ruling.
Before you say it can’t be done, yes the Canes can buy out Staal then re-sign him. Why would we do it? Save 2 million in cap. Staal may do it to increase his cup chances and still get paid the same amount of money and gets his next contract locked in before he loses all value.
Barrie can get the TDA treatment and play on both PP groups but will get less 5v5 time.

The Staal buyout gets points for creativity, but you're not gonna get someone like TK for TDA after one year. His.. let's say muddied off ice personality and issues on previous teams are going to make him difficult to move. There will likely be interest, but only in VERY specific situations. Philly when they're about to lose their captain to free agency, probably isn't one of them.

I just picked Philly cuz he is from there. Dallas is another option to get futures from. Re-sign nino.

Again, Benn and Seguin are about to be tied to the next rocket leaving Houston.. it's probably best to just even leave him as an qualified RFA.

I don't think the Staal buyout works that way- they'd have to trade him to another team for the buyout to be eligible to re-sign him. I think a year has to pass before you can re-sign someone you bought out- could be wrong.

They don’t. Calgary has done it before with Stone. Calgary bought him out in August and re-signed him in September. Only compliance buy outs have 1 year restrictions on them.
