Explications
Slight overreaction to the worst game I've seen in a while. Still don't think it hurts the Blues to get some underperformers out.

I could see a Binnington to EDM trade happening if EDM can figure the cap out. Montreal however declines. Value is there but the Habs need picks or 18/19 year olds, I think Kostin is just a bit too old for them at this point

I’m very anti chiarot. I think our defensive issues stem from the forwards and the fact that only two of our D can make a ten foot pass with control.

Binnington this year has turned into Koskinen, except he is at 6m for what five more years. Is Binni still long term value? Easy no from Oilers.

Definitely. Playing less defense is a great way to play better defense, but I still think they need some stability on the back-end. Get someone to try and spark some offensive confidence Parayko. He's been terrible at moving the puck, we all know he has another level hiding in there somewhere. If he can pick it up, you'd have a solid puck mover on each pairing.

I think chiarot is a 5/6 on a good team. Like I can’t say he even upgrades mikkola (even though I don’t love mikkola at 5v5 either.)

I think Mikkola is a prime example of a guy looking like he's doing a lot when he doesn't have a positive impact on the game. Just give me anyone who can play 20 minutes - Lindholm, Chychrun, Soucy, Giordano, Chiarot - I'm tired of watching them roll out this same defense. Krug-Faulk is a solid 2nd pair, now fix the other 2 pairings.

I just looked on EH and here are the bottom 5 teams in 5v5 xGA/60: Flyers, Canadiens, Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Blues. Woof. Better find a way to correct the trend before Husso is no longer saving 94% of the shots.

Unlikely.

The Oilers tanked in December and January, largely due to spectacularly unreliable goaltending. Their offense dried up, in part due to a long stretch of poor puck luck, but mostly because they were constantly playing from behind, and that allowed opposing teams to simplify their defensive systems and further frustrate Edmonton's efforts to climb back into games. Where they got a .855 Sv% from Koskinen, a .900 probably would have kept them in contention in the Pacific Division. I don't think the Oilers need spectacular goaltending in order to make the playoffs, but they will if they want to make it very far in the post season.

Binnington might be capable of providing > .900 Sv%, but this year his performance has been suspect. That makes him a pretty big gamble for the Oilers. To make matters worse for Edmonton, Binnington has several years left under his current contract, which becomes a problem with Mike Smith under contract for another season and Stuart Skinner having no waiver protection in 2022/23. On top of that, Binnington has a 18-team no trade list.
