I'll cite the Duclair signing as my comparable. This deal was approved.
Duclair has a .42 PPG and a .18 GPG over the last two years. Panik has a .40 PPG and a 0.21 GPG. Very similar stats despite Panik playing with much more talented players. Panic has also not performed in the playoffs as he has only 4 assists in 10 games when it matters most. Having said all of that I can bump it up to 1.5 per year or drop the deal to a one year deal because Panik has arbitration rights which Duclair does not.
Duclair went from promising talent to AHL calibr player in his RFA season. Panik has arbitration rights which brings up his ability to get higher value back in his contract. Duclair is 21. Panik is 26. He is looking for his pay day now.
Actual comparables for Panik are: (These were a couple years ago so with inflation add 0.25M-0.5M for next year)
Perreault - 3M - 2 years ago deal
Tatar 2.75M - 2 years ago deal
Nelson - 2.5M - Last year deal
Komarov - 2.95M -2 years ago deal
Duclair and Panik are not comparables. Age, stats, contract status play a big part in negotiations. 1.25-1.5M makes no sense for 26 year old who scored 20+ goals last year , who has arbitration rights.
Another big part is the term. 3 years at 1.25M? Not even close. If he takes another bridge deal, he'll take it for 1 year at maybe 2.5M. At 3 years he'll want minimum of 8M over the term of the contract. (2.66M) That is a start. I expect it to fall a little closer to 3M avg.
