Oilers would need to add. Matthews is more effective at driving play and a better defensive player. HIs overall contributions to the game are without question greater than Draisaitl's.

First off Matthews be younger. Big advantage in a star center.

Second Matthews is 2nd in the NHL in total Goals Per Games Played. There's only 1 current NHL player ahead of him and that's Ovechkin.

Ovie = 0.612 G/GP
Math = 0.607 G/GP

And to put that into perspective the 3rd guy currently playing is Stamkos and hes at 0.520 G/GP

Plus Matthews has finally unlocked that 2-way game that people have been dying to see. Rn his defensive stats are tied with Barkov when he won the Selke. Sure he isnt on the PK but if he keeps up these strong defensive numbers Keefe will give him a look.

Matthews is better than Draisaitl. No matter how you slice it. Draisaitl gets more points because he spends so much time with McDavid. It's undeniable that it boosts his stats. Matthews scores more goals, is better defensively and does it without the single best player in the world feeding him. That isn't an indictment on Marner it's just a fact that McDavid is the best bar none.

Mathews' hardly better then Draisaitl, slightly better at scoring goals and slightly better defensively and it's a very small margin, where as Draisaitls vision and passing is better then Mathews. But Draisaitls cap hit makes him more desirable. It's just laughable when someone trys to say one player is by far better then the other(talking mostly about leafs and Oilers fans, I'm an Oilers fan) when there numbers are so close(Draisaitls over all points higher mind you).

Everything else you could argue here and there but for defense Matthews took over that area.

Matthews doesn't play with McDavid. If he did, he'd score 70+ goals and have a 130+ points as well. Also their defensive metrics are not remotely close. Draisaitl's aren't very good and doesn't go against the oppositions best. McDavid does, unless they are together, which again, means he's playing with McDavid.

I wouldn't even trade Matthews for McDavid
