I like Mayfield, but the need isn't really there for NSH.

Motte doesn't seem like the right piece. NSH isn't short on bottom six wingers and Hynes prefers guys with size on those lines.

I feel as if Benning could be used more as a seventh defenseman. Myers has seemed to struggle under Hynes and doesn’t get consistent playing time and the the two guy behind him, Davies and Tennyson, I don’t feel great about. I feel as if Mayfield would just solidify that side and make me less worried about it and he could also provide some mentorship to our younger defensemen. Motte could be used as a second Nick Cousins type option. The predators like Cousins and might not be opposed to having another player that can play up and down the line up.

I could easily be wrong, but I think the plan is to bring Myers along slowly this season, with a focus on having him ready for a full time third pairing role next season. Tennyson isn't anything more than a #7/AHL player, but he's been better than expected in his two games so far. Davies plays the left side, and will be battling with Farrance and Del Gaizo for the 3rd LD spot (assuming Boro doesn't get re-signed, which isn't out of the question).

Instead of Motte, I think someone who can play center would be a better add. The 4C spot has been a revolving door this season. McCarron doesn't do it for me, and Novak seems to have fallen out of favour. Aside from a rental winger to upgrade Johansen's line (which would push one of Kunin or Tolvanen down the lineup, making Motte redundant), I think a 4C would be the most logical add for a playoff run.

We don’t need depth we need top six players

Mayfield is interesting, but I’m not sure NSH needs another RHD — I’d prefer if he was LHD. Maybe someone like Soucy in that case I’d you want an extra year and a guy with size.

As for Motte, I agree with @gmgb— NSH needs a center far more than a bottom 6 winger. And if they want to add a winger, it’ll be a top 6 guy to play with Johansen.

Sorry, I messed up on the Davies bit. Seeing that bottom pair be shaken up these past couple of weeks has messed my mind up. Now I get the argument against motte, and I have to agree with it now.
