While that is a subpar offer for chychrun, I think detroit would be better off going after a guy like Petry in the off-season. It wouldn’t cost them an arm and a leg, wouldn’t have to blow up their system. He’s play the right side so I think he’s behind MO and Hronek. Habs could retain 2M so salary would be similar to JC and I don’t think they need JC with MO and Edvinsson coming in 1-2 years. Something like a 2nd and mid round pick for 3 years of Petry at 4M is a pretty good deal. He’s had an awful season but so have all habs so it’s hard to evaluate but hes had 5-6 really good seasons prior where he was a legit top pair.

If 1 player could carry a team wouldn't Edmonton be on their 4th or 5th cup? They arguably have the 2 best players in the world.
