Arizona does not have to overpay players to stay long term they have no state tax warm weather and great golf . He’s on pace for 60pts and he’s already has a 60 pts season under his belt he’s worth his contract and still have potential. He would excel on a better team

I can only think of two players to sign max term deals in arizona. Keller and OEL. Both massively overpaid. Arguing that the coyotes don’t have issues retaining players is pretty insane.

The owner does not spend to the cap, no, but there is also a cap floor, which the yotes are constantly in jeopardy of missing. Plenty of room to extend the right guys long term, but no one wants to be there long term. Plenty of teams in tough financial situations make big commitments to the right players, because, again, there is a cap floor. Someone needs to be paid. Atlanta offered something absurd to Kovalchuk to get him to stay, but, because just like Arizona, no one wants to stay there, he moved on.
