I hope Paul is extended by the Sens but that's about his current value, maybe with a depth prospect on top of it.

If he is traded I hope he comes back to sign as a UFA. Ottawa needs solid vets and Paul now 26 y/o is developing into that

Greene will at least be worth a 4th-5th round pick.

How are you going to pick Paul up and then not put him back with Mangiapane?? Haha

I’d do that late Florida second. That gets accepted.

Paul, Nicholas
OTT
2022 2nd round pick (FLA)

When you trade a player for a pick, the pick has to have a chance to be better than the current player, and a very late 2nd isn't going to be better than what Nick Paul is right now. Ottawa has the room for Paul, they have the cap space for him, so they would be better off just keeping him than to trade for a pick that might one day be only as good as what they have. Paul has been developed, they know what they have in him, if you want Nick Paul, it would cost a minimum early 2nd. Nick Paul can play wing, he can play centre, take faeoffs, he's first over the boards on the PK, and often on the ice late in the game when they need to protect the lead of a close game. He's well liked in the locker room, and is a main part of the leadership group. Ottawa isn't giving a player like that away for just a 50/50 pick, which is what late 2nds are. If you think he's a rental, that's what he is to you, but to Ottawa, he's a guy they will likely resign and will continue to be an important part of this team. So no, he isn't a rental, as far as Ottawa is concerned.

If you want Nick Paul, the offer has to make sense for Ottawa.

IF Ottawa decided to move Nick Paul there'd be better offers on the table.

Realistically, if Paul’s not resigning then a 2nd is fine. Floridas a wagon so maybe it’s the Flames 2nd instead of the Panthers but of course this hinges upon him wanting to resign. If he does then Ottawa keeps him because, as mentioned, he’s worth more to the Sens than a 2nd. But in no world is him potentially walking in free agency better than getting a 2nd for him at the deadline.

It depends on who said it was enough. Not all fans realize a player like Paul's value. Paul is unique, definitely. It just makes much more sense to resign Paul than trade him.

With the issues Ottawa had at centre this season, and the options for 4C next season, it makes sense to sign Paul for two more seasons. Tierney will be gone, Gambrell and Bishop aren't the answer, White is wasted on the 4th line, Greig and Ostapchuk won't be ready, Kastelic isn't the answer. Gambrell, Bishop, and Kastelic are fine as depth in case of injury, but not as the projected opening day 4C.

Kelly, Paul, Watson would be fine as a 4th line.

Like ANY PLAYER in his UFA year, the "acceptable return" changes depending on whether they're insisting on testing free agency or if they're willing to extend with their team. Equally as important is what $$ and term would be required to keep them and whether the franchise has a cheaper or better option available to fill the hole the leaving player would create. So... depending on what the ACGM poster believes about Nick Paul's / Ottawa's answer to all the above, the return they'd settle for fluctuates. That's also true of real GMs. Personally I feel if Ottawa can get Nick Paul for 3 or 4 years at $2.5 or less - they should do it. If Nick is holding out for $2.75M and the best offer on a trade is the FLA 2nd pick... I'd be willing to pay him $2.75.

From the Flames perspective, I like these deals. I think they are pretty fair for both sides.

Well done!

Sens fans saying no, have waay too much attachment to fan favourites.

This is in the best interests of the team. OTT should accept this. If Paul wants to come back and re-sign later he can.
