Unless Zucker goes back the other way or goes on LTIR for the rest of the season, there is no way the Penguins can really add a player like Eberle.

That said, it would be fun to see if he could turn his "always scoring on the Penguins thing" into "scoring for the Penguins"

Surely Hextall can find a way to take on about 3 million for a winger to play with Geno? Desmith takes 1.25 off the books and Seattle eats another million. Zucker could be added as they have plenty of space but that requires Hex moving one of your few good prospects

Pens can't afford that deal, not to mention Hextall isn't moving his 1sts. He's said it repeatedly to the media.

Do you not need a winger? I’m not Ducks expert but it seems like they could use a veteran 3rd line kind of rental

Jarnkrok is worth a 1st before either of Appleton or Donato are even brought up for a 1st.

I love when people think it's just so easy to move out salary. SEA can take Poulin or Legare if we added Zucker.

If Zucker came back you afford it easily but that probably means POJ gets added in. Hex is cautious and I think that’ll be your undoing come playoff time

Yup and CAR is one Andersen injury away from an early exit. Tampa is one Vasy injury away from a first round exit. Most top teams who lose their starters likely exist early. What's your point?

Carolina definitely isn’t. Raanta is one of the best 1Bs in the league. Desmith belongs in the AHL

McCann will be a 3C on BOS. Wait, so will Charlie Coyle!??
Whaaaaaa!
BOS need is not for a maybe he can be a 2C - the need is "MUST B A 2-C"...same goes for LD.

Besides JD (0.26 G/Gm) from the wing is better than centre JM (0.21). Moreover JD is clutch in playoffs 16G - JM when it counts = 0
No go...

This is what the roster looks like with what you proposed:

1IBMMW2.png

You would have to shed the salary of a player already making just under $4 million to do it (and get to a 23 man roster). That makes the team worse.

The math only really works if Eberle is getting retained 50% by Seattle and then flipped to another team to retain 50% of the remaining cap hit before being sent to Pittsburgh.

That or Zucker going the other way or on LTIR (which is possible because he's played only one game in the last few weeks due to a nagging injury).

Yeah, what about Elliot on Tampa? Mrazek or Holl for TOR? NSH has junk.

So again, many top teams lose their starter and it's all over, what is your point? You proposed a bad trade for a forward and your defense is that if we lose Jarry it's over? Odd defense/retort.

Just admit it's a bad trade and move on. We all propose bad trades sometimes. Yours was just really bad.

No one is going to take the contract without significant compensation. He makes $3.3 million in actual salary next season with a $2.5 million cap hit. Just a really dumb contract.

This is what happens when people don't actually look at another team's roster and/or confuses how easy it is to make trades on here as opposed to how things work in reality. I love when people say, "Oh, they'll find a way to move out the salary to make this happen." It shows how detached they are from reality.

Compensation? Yes.
Significant? No.

Will take maximum a third to get rid of him. Plenty of teams need to reach the cap floor.

Use Will Butcher (albeit, a defenceman) to Buffalo as a comparison.

No it's not. His contract structure makes him an easy buyout candidate this off-season. There's less than a zero percent chance it takes a 1st to move him. Won't even be part of a phone call

Actually, it's not - look at the structure of it. It's a $300K cap hit next season and a $1.1M cap hit the season after that for a buyout. That's actually not a terrible contract to move for a rebuilding team to look at taking on a small additional piece to help their rebuild.

First of all, there are not many teams that have trouble hitting the cap floor (why do people always use this narrative?). It's pretty much just Arizona next year that needs to add enough salary to hit the floor next season. Secondly, teams doing that aren't looking to take players that make more than their actual cap hit. They want the opposite. Guys who make less than the cap hit or can go on LTIR with insurance covering most of it.
