Description
Just a few little ideas I've been toying with, no idea if they'd fly or how the values look. Interested to hear people's thoughts.
Transactions
1.
COL
  1. Thompson, Logan
Détails additionnels:
Colorado gets a useful looking #3 goalie who is waivers exempt. An unlikely trade as this is probably why Vegas signed him but the pick might persuade them.
VGK
  1. Miska, Hunter
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2022 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
Vegas gets a goalie back into their system and a low pick for an undrafted but useful looking goalie.
2.
COL
  1. Burroughs, Kyle
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (WPG)
Détails additionnels:
I liked what I saw of Burroughs in his short stint in Colorado and he'd be a useful depth D. Jost could maybe still fetch a second from some teams so a third and Burroughs seems fair value, and the Avs get move some cap ready for the third trade.
VAN
  1. Jost, Tyson
Détails additionnels:
Personally I like Jost, but it's possible the Avs need to think about moving on from him. The Canucks get a guy who is simply going to love playing in his hometown (born in Alberta but grew up in BC), and can definitely help their bottom 6.
3.
COL
  1. Faksa, Radek
Détails additionnels:
Main consideration with Faksa is face offs. It's one area the Avs have been relatively weak and Faksa should seriously help there,
DAL
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
Not concerned if it's the Winnipeg pick or Colorado's own, but a third is probably as high as Dallas would likely get for Faksa, maybe a second similar to Jost. Dallas fans seemed pretty down on him earlier this season.

I think there may be better options than Burroughs - I wasn't high on him. Faksa is interesting but I can't see Dallas helping the Avs unless they're well out of the playoff race. Also, you're over the cap.

like the miska/thompson trade but i think vegas just holds their guy

don't like the jost trade at all.

im ok with faska but i'm not sure i'd do that trade. he had a good playoffs against the avs but his contract is a little iffy. depends on what else is out there.

Yeah the cap isn't really an issue as that amount should easily be acquired by the TDL I would hope, and you wouldn't make the trades until that point. Probably should have noted that up top. Agreed on the divisional rivals 'helping each other out', and their own position. The Vancouver trade wasn't so much about acquiring Burroughs, and I wouldn't say I was high on him, just that he'd be useful. That was more about moving on from Jost with some value, finding a decent fit for him and doing him a solid, and making space for Faksa.

The Jost trade was really to make space for Faksa more than anything, but can understand your dislike.

I don't mind the first trade, but if you're down to Thompson by playoff time then might as well pack up. I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't really move the needle.

I'm not big on Burroughs, so that one I'm not into. Jost hasn't been as good as hoped, but he's a good, versatile guy that is nice to have.

Fassa I would like if he didn't have the contract he has. Taking on that money has implications down the line. I think Newhook has been a good 3C too, so I don't like the fit that much.

It's a tough deadline to predict because of the cap crunch. If Byram and MacDonald can get healthy, then I still think middle six forward is the best target. Seems they are popular though.

Absolutely agree that if we're down to Thompson we're in big trouble unless we've somehow found the next St. Patrick. Agree with you on Jost's versatility but that trade is more to make some cap space for Faksa. Newhook I'd agree with you has been good, I worry about the Avs in the face off circle though, especially defensively. The Faksa contract I think is similar to JTC's in that it maybe looks worse in the covid cap era. I've also been thinking about the middle six forward aspect. Probably posting one with that later as I figure it's about time I showed a few ideas and got shot down if I'm going to critique others. Also got a few that are a bit more 'far out'.....but not quite in Habs fans Price & Drouin territory lol.

I don't think Faska's contract is bad per se. It's just not something I want going into an offseason where the team has no goalies and no 2nd line, lol.

LOL! The second line next year worries me too. Hopefully Joe pulls out a biggie and we've got Forsberg alongside Newhook or something. squinty smile

I'd rather have Jost than Faksa. He used to be a good shutdown 3C a few years ago but his play has nosedived since then and at 3.25M he's just not worth it anymore imo

Fair comment. His metrics etc certainly appear to support the argument that he's slumped somewhat as far as I looked. I do, however, think he's another who suffers from what I'm beginning to call 'JTC syndrome' in his cap hit appearing worse in the covid cap era than it really is.

I like the thought process, but not super thrilled with any of the trades. VGK isn’t helping COL, Jost is worth more than that in the lineup Burroughs types are a dime a dozen. I really like Faksa, I really hate his contract also think it would take more than that to pry him out of a division rival.

Thanks, appreciate that. I agree VGK helping COL is is unlikely unless they're getting overpaid. A 5th plus a lesser replacement for a guy who likely may never be more than an AHL'er, I thought, was more than fair though value-wise. As I've said a couple of times already, Burroughs wasn't really the target in himself, just a useful pick up for depth. In essence the idea was to move Jost's cap in a reasonable deal that would satisfy both teams and probably the player as well, in order to make room for Faksa. Probably should have been a little more detailed in the trade thought process. I'd agree Jost could probably garner more though, maybe the second needed to acquire Faksa. On Faksa himself, the only Dallas (or neutral?) fan so far seems to agree with you by saying it would take a second to get Faksa. I'd agree the Avs as a division rival might have to pay that or add a prospect or other pick. Dallas fans on some other past posts this season seemed pretty down on his value though. His contract doesn't worry me all that much but maybe I'm missing something. That seems a reasonable amount for a solid shutdown 3C to me, though I realise it could potentially be a headache when the Avs come to re-sign some others.

Was gonna say this too.

Vegas won't have any interest in Miska. He's an ECHL or Ahl goalie at best. A 5th does nothing for them.

Jost for a 3rd is a bit underwhelming, even if the value isn't far off (Burroughs has close to no value). Rather keep Jost to package him in another trade.

I haven't watched Dallas much but Faksa is exactly the type of defensive 3C we need behind MacKinnon and Newhook going forward. At $3.25m I'd be fine taking the risk. Dallas would certainly want a lot more than just a 3rd for him though.

Faksa has had a rough year metric wise, he has been destroyed in shot metrics and xG but he has taken a whopping 73% of his starts in the defensive zone, I think the Avs see his game at its best and hope that’s what Maltsev turns into.

Sometimes a player just needs a new start. Like Nichuskin. Dallas play a system that isn't always favourable to players producing well or even playing well, which is incidentally why Klingberg has (allegedly) requested a trade.
