Not at that price. The Avs would be stupid to give up their best two non-NHL prospects.

Still too much, especially with no retention. Giroux is a rental the Avs simply don't really need.

I don't think this rumor is realistic. We have plenty of 1st-line talent, there's no need to get him.

I would take him for his FO prowess and to add secondary scoring - which can come in handy come playoff time - but not at that price. I'd happily send them someone like Kaut or Bowers and a 3rd but that's about it. To me, if the asking price is that high, it's not at all worth it and there are other targets that wouldn't cost near as much that could address the Avs needs.

Agreed. He'd be a nice add if the price was right, and he'll probably fetch a late first (because it will be to a contender if it happens) and a decent prospect. The fact the Avs don't have a first in '22 is a problem, but there's also the fact he basically controls if and where he goes with the NMC. Flyers boards have him fetching back a first, Barron and Newhook. (I'll add that's trading him through Arizona to retain more salary though). That, like the above, is a pipe-dream unless Sakic starts doing drugs.

Bowers has no value. I think a fair package for Giroux would be Kaut+1st. The dude can still play. If the Avs don’t need him, that’s fine. But that should be the asking price

Bowers has value but he would be a bottom-six, PK guy. His skating is great but the Avs have done him no favors by not giving him a look at the NHL level. I get where you're coming from on the value level of Giroux and he definitely can still play but I wouldn't spend major assets on him (or anyone for that matter). To me, going to Seattle and getting Jarnkrok or Appleton would give the Avs what they need without breaking the bank.

I would have a hard time believing that’s a winning offer. Presumably a very late 2023 1st and an underwhelming prospect. Flyers can do better

That's hilarious. If Giroux were about 6-7 years younger, they can ask for that but asking for, essentially, three first rounders for a guy that is 34 is massively overvaluing your guy.

I’m wondering though what team would pay more for him. Maybe Nashville? But do they want to buy. Edmonton would be a good fit if they weren’t spiraling. Maybe LA?

And I think that’s a fair asking price that the Avs definitely consider. Unfortunately to many ACGM’s especially with aging stars are just ridiculous overpayments, half of the league has no cap space.

I wouldn't say Bowers has no value but I'd agree if you said it was pretty low as he projects to be likely bottom 6. Kaut plus a first I'd maybe consider. The big problem for the Avs would be cap because even at 50% retained that would likely be a no go without some other moves.

Who has cap space, need, and most important willingness to beat that offer? COL doesn’t need more scoring help, would more be nice sure, are they as the highest scoring team going to over pay for it no.

Yeah it’s always hard to say, some of these GMs don’t make decisions for the long haul like fans would. They have a shelf life and it can make for some puzzling moves.

I would suspect Bruins and Wild would have interest. LA and EDM possibly too yeah.

Problem there is that JTC does actually have value. He just got signed to a contract which looks bad in the Covid cap era and had a rough year last year. The Avs could certainly move him somewhere I'm sure but then it's robbing Peter (depth) to pay Paul.....or Claude.

There's also the fact that Giroux very much controls if and where he goes with his NMC, and I doubt the Flyers would be looking to screw him over. They may also take a lesser offer to keep him happy, give him a run at a cup and look at re-signing him next year.

Yeah I never said the Avs would go for him. I said that offer likely gets beat. 23 1st and Kaut isn’t disrespectful but its not exactly a knockout offer

He got lucky early in the season and is a pretty big possession sinkhole in all zones. His defense is also suspect. If they could swap Giroux for JTC, that's a big win.

I mean they’d likely ask him for a list of places he’d accept a trade to then go seek out max value. It would be idiotic business to take a lesser package because Claude prefers X city over Y.

For sure they would but with the NMC he has the packages are likely going to be few and far between.

I can't see them wanting him but if they took him to help make the money work, they'd probably want something really good, like Barron. To me, not worth it to give them something like that since there are other guys out there who could shore up the bottom six at a cheaper price.
