Why do we need Broberg with Sanderson coming? Also we can just re-sign Holden instead of Kulak. And no need for Strome. Pinto will be there

Habs take it.

Also, Kulak is a good dependable 3rd pair, probably could get him a bit cheaper as well.

Also that cap dump is such an overpay . Buying White out would only cost 800k. That package should get a top 6F

I think Kulak is an upgrade over Holden. The term and value might be too high but even if it was 3 years at 2 million per year it’d be a good signing. Strome is the type of veteran top six guy we need. Giroux can be had but a high price one year deal, nothing longer. I’m sure he will want to compete for a cup before he retires and we are still a way from that. However, I’m hoping he comes home for one year. Broberg could be replaced by Holloway and I’d still do that deal

Oilers aren’t doing that…. A 1st and Broberg should get a really good return to a position of need.

Brown has 1 year left his deal and the oilers don’t have money to resign him. So you effectively just had the oilers move their two most valuable trade assets for 1 year of a 2nd Line winger and a bunch of mediocre pieces.

Mete and Gaudette are irrelevant depth pieces.. plenty of those available in free agency or the trade market for late picks.
Gustavsson is just a goalie who hasn’t shown anything impressive. With Konavalov, Skinner and Rodrigue in the system, oilers don’t need another B goalie prospect.

Deal just makes zero sense for the oilers

I agree that this is a massive overpay to shed White's contract but the actual cost of buying him out is $5.25M (6 years at $875,000). SO, USING THAT MATH, the SENS could retain $1.75M for his 3 remaining years ($5.25M) and trade him with a $3M cap hit. Many GMs would be happy to give up a 3rd (or better) for White at 3x $3M.

This way we're getting something for him at the same price as buying him out.

Holy shmoly, did Colin White pull an Evander Kane and no ones talking about it or something?

I don't think it would cost that much to get rid of his contract and he certainly isn't bad enough to warrant doing this.

Both trades are overpays.

There is zero reason imaginable to throw Gustavsson into a deal where you’re already moving Connor Brown. Gaudette and Mete are okay but don’t move the needle. Smith is a negative asset at this point. Broberg’s been almost consistently disappointing since he was drafted. Zero reason to prioritize LD when you still have Chabot, Sanderson and Branny. Hard pass.

The White trade is terrible for Ottawa. Trading your 2019 1st round RD who’s looked great in a small sample size in the NHL and is probably the best defenceman on the AHL team and a 2023 1st to dump White when his buyout is 850k for 8 years??

No reason to spend any assets to move on from someone when a buyout costs you zero assets other than under 1m/year in cap space.

Brown’s signed for next year as well, that’s a season and a half along with two playoff runs. Two years of a winger who scored at a 50 point pace last year and is scoring at a 60 point pace this year and plays pk and pp as needed.

Ottawa has no interest in Broberg.
