Description

Connor McDavid is great.

But why does Connor McDavid not take any blame for the Oilers utter failure since he came into the league? He has never accomplished ANYTHING in the playoffs.

In my opinion, he is not a good leader. I might even say he is a poor leader. I know many people who know him and all of them say he is extremely socially awkward and odd.

It is inexcusable that this team is playing the way it is and hasn’t had any success in his career and yet no one talks about it? If any other star had his track record of losing then they would be called out and blamed but for some reason everyone finds every other reason other than McDavid…even though he has been just about the only common denominator? How many coaches? How many GM’s? How many pieces and supporting casts? How many goalies? They ALWAYS take the blame and the “leader” of this team always skates away without a negative word said about him. I think it’s absolute bull crap. Remember Ovechkin? His team was winning presidents trophies and dominating the league and ALL you heard his career was “Oh but he can’t win in the playoffs” but yet McDavid has fared WAY WORSE and no one says a peep? Come on…

They have a good team. They have other great players. They could use a goalie upgrade and maybe a couple depth pieces, sure, but this team is a good team and if McDavid is as great as people say then he would be winning a lot more.

It truly makes you appreciate Sidney Crosby and his career more. The FAR superior player IMO. And it’s not close at all. I can guarantee the Oilers would be in the playoffs right now if Sid was wearing the C in Edmonton and not 97.

Do you think he would want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire, especially after all he’s gone through?

And then with those huge cap hits next year…that is over $40,000,000 for 4 players and less than $4,000,000 left over to pay for 7-10 players. It simply won’t work.

You can just look around here and how everyone is so reluctant to move any future piece in search of present success.

If McDavid only knows how to score. That's all you need from him. You can make up for the rest elsewhere on the roster. Your best player doesn't have to be your leader.
He's not getting the criticism because there are more obvious issues he has no control over.

The Oilers need better 5v5 play, defense, and goaltending. Tonight's game you can't do anything about. Losing to a superior team and a goalie pitching a shutout is no reason to panic.
Scoring 4+ goals and still losing, or losing the majority of the games that you don't score at least 4 goals, are reasons to be concerned.

Fair point. However price is not an upgrade, certainly is not worth that, in fact he has significant negative value. Youre paying 10.5m a year for a below average goalie who had 1 good month in the last 4 years. Its also impossible to move on from him if you wanted bc he has a full nmc for the remainder of his contract.
