Description
Hear me out, the Habs have a lot of long term deals left on guys like Toffoli, Andersson, Petry, Price, etc... maybe a full rebuild isn't the best option for now.

Last year the team wasn't that bad and played unreal hockey in the playoffs. I think they are better than the way they have been playing right now. What would need to happen
- either Wright/Cooley,
- move on from pending UFA's at 2022 deadline,
- bring in a high caliber dman in the offseason (used Letang as an example),
- maybe move on from Drouin or somebody on a expiring contract during 22-23,
- hope Romanov, Guhle, or Claugue step up for a top 4 role,
- hope Price comes back.

Think if this lineup was able to squeak into a playoff spot with Price playing well, I could see them upsetting a top team and going on another run. Then once some of these contracts run out the rebuild can commence.

Ya could be a different team, just thinking the Blues like to have a physical edge and Chiarot would fit that mould, just used the blues as a reference could be any team contending

Drouin and Weber to NSH might be a deal you’d wanna look into

No space for him he have Krug who’s better and Scandella and mikkola who are on par imo who already are really physical not to mention Scotty P and Walman too so if we do go for chariot a first is steep if the price is a third sure why the hell not but not a first

Ya definitely not a top team year after year, but if they could sneak into playoffs they might be able to go on another run?

Isn't that the market for good rental players? Foligno in Tor, Coleman and Goodrow and Savard in Tampa, etc....

Blues won't give a first for a rental again. You can thank Ryan Miller for that.

I agree with your assessment of the rebuild, it is exactly what I have been saying for months now. We can't simply go full rebuild mode, we have too many good players sign to long term contracts. To hope to move 8+ players on long term contracts at one deadline is unrealistic. MAYBE you see Toffoli and Armia moved but anything beyond that is not happening. Also we just protected Allen in the ED (I know it was a different GM) so I doubt they Habs turn around now and trade him.

Yes exactly, and in today's NHL to move guy's with high cap hits you either have to pay a team to take the contract or bring back a bad contract of your own... Toffoli, Anderson, and Hoffman and those guy's are still good players but with a high cap hit it makes them really hard to move and gain assets that will actually help the team. Moving those players for a 3rd or 2nd round pick doesn't really help Montreal that much.
