You are missing value on the Habs trade. We can get a 1st + 3rd with retention on Chiarot and Allen is worth a 2nd, then you want us to downgrade to Koskinen for free? you are missing at least a 2nd or good prospect.

Well I see no way MTL getting that for Chairot considering that ask has been out there for months and it still has not happened. Perhaps the deal is light on the return. Regarding Koskinen IF MTL is a seller you're taking money to facilitate trades rather than making roster upgrades.

If you can get a 2nd for Chiarot that's an insane win. He's a pylon good at cross checking. Asked to be a top pair guy this season and has been absolutely caved in. Allen also sucks. Take it and run.

Check out Chiarot's advance stats and then explain to me how he's worth literally anything. He is having an abysmal season, if he goes for more than a 3rd it's a travesty.

Whether or not you believe that Chiarot will get the return based on the rumour being around for months ( lots of rumors are around for months without it affecting their value BTW). That is the going rate right now and as teams like the Oilers get more desperate, they become more willing to pay the prices.

Well they didn't have a GM until yesterday. The bidding war has not started yet as we are 2 months away from TD.

In the past few years the list of LHD Defenseman traded for a 1st round pick include:

1. Brady Skjei
2. Jake Muzzin
3. Ryan McDonagh

Which player does Ben Chirot best compare too?

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/ben-chiarot
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/brady-skjei
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/ryan-mcdonagh
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jake-muzzin

Cause I'm taking ALL 3 of those players and their bodies of work over Ben Chiarot. So to assure yourself he will fetch a 1st round pick seems a little overconfident. Could it happen, absolutely it could but I doubt it. And the thought teams like EDM will get desperate isn't totally true considering the closer we get to the Trade Deadline means more teams will be sellers and therefore more players will be made available.

Right but somehow being terrible on a terrible team means he's a major addition on better teams.

Having bad results on a bad team does not mean the player is bad. Situation can be everything, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Chiarot come to EDM play 3rd pair and produce better metrics than his current head below water situation on MTLs top pairs

Think you missed an obvious one (I think you actually left this one out on purpose since he compares directly to Chiarot) Savard got a 1st + 3rd just last season.

I would put a sizable wager on Chiarot being as bad in Edmonton as he is in Montreal. But he would cross check a lot of guys which will make the meat heads happy

It would certainly help make those weaklings harder to play against. But go on, tell us all about your amazing team that can't do anything in the playoffs.

Sorry I missed the LHD in your comment.

still you say that the Oilers won't be desperate due to teams falling out of the standings as the deadline gets closer. However the East is pretty well set already and Chiarot is still the best available D man out of the east. THe west will be a dogfight to the end and as such not many more teams will be true sellers at the deadline so those hoping on getting Lindholm or Manson out of Anaheim are going to be severly disappointed. Other teams on the bubble will be adding as well not selling, All of Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Edmonton, Dallas and even Chicago still have a shot at the playoffs and aren't likely to fall too far in the standings before the deadline.

Sure right after you explain how any of your defence is not part of the reason why your are one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

I would too. No defenseman is going to solidify their goaltending (or solve their other issues).

I happen to agree that physical play is a poor reason to acquire a player, but the reality justifies it.

As long as the playoffs have different standards of officiating, players who can cause damage and "wear down" opponents, will continue to be at a premium, as will those willing to fight or "jump" a guy for getting a little too physical.

Nobody is arguing Chiarot's analytics. It's his "intangibles" that inflate his value.

Well, compared to Montreal's playoff run...

No Weber
No Edmundson
Petry playing injured or out

Chiarot has been the one steady top 4 guy from last playoffs still playing. Savard recently has settled in.

No Price
No Allen at times (Covid/Injuries)

We had to recall players from the ECHL, and have grabbed 4 players off Waivers... This isn't the same team, but we sure saw the type of defenseman you need to thrive in the playoffs.

Excuses. Petry is showing his age, Chiarot is crap and the team just wasn't all that good.

Watch one game.
You will see wingers acting as outlets for pucks that never come ...
Because the defense is focused on tying up a player instead of moving the puck ...
And when they do manage to move the puck, they send it around the boards ...
Where the stationary winger who has been waiting, didn't close the distance to get to the puck with enough time and space to move it ...
Because there is a disconnect between the offensive and defensive units, where the defense is playing risk prevention without proper forward support ...
While the forwards are cheating on transition waiting for puck movement from the defense, who are trying not to let the puck move.

That's just one area of the game, and one facet where the coaching and strategy is a disaster and is a direct cause of the team's poor performance.
The fact that it has continued this long without appropriate adjustments, is enough proof that it's the coaching that is the primary issue, not the players.

Sounds like a coaching issue to me. Although when I look at the roster I see a big issue with how it's constructed. Lots of decent wingers, very little down the middle and a total lack of puck moving ability on the blueline. Couple that with major long term cap issues and this is a really bad situation for the Habs.

Personally I would love to see Montreal and TO both good at the same time but right now I can't see Montreal being good for a very long time. Even if they get Wright, how do they keep the team together when they have dead cap in Weber, Price, Petry, Gallagher and Anderson down the road?

Looking back at the Bergevin era, he got lucky and got Price. He's the single reason for most of if not all the success the team has had. Now it's all showing really, really bad. People will point to the cup final run last year where they were completely outclassed and say that counts for something but I don't buy it. Sometimes bad GM's get lucky and get credit for stuff that was not remotely their success.
