This is why MTL has the most Toxic fanbase. Team has a young player in a slump so they become an instant trade when 6 months ago he was the next best thing for the franchise, like pick a side. Sometimes its so frustrating seeing how other fans act.

That's why I gave two possibilities. With Fox and Trouba entrenched on the right, one becomes "extra".

I don't see the point in moving Caufield. He's super talented and will only get better, and we need his offensive spark. We have plenty of LD prospects and it's not the end of the world if one of them plays on their off-side. The Habs had a chance to draft Schneider and went for Guhle.

I'm not trading Caufield because I don't want him. I'm trading him because we have too many RW with term and a more pressing need at another position.

so maybe trade one of the RW, Lecky isnt signed for next year move Armia if you want to create space, find something to take on Gallagher litterally caufield should be the last option to create RW space and the habs most pressing need is the same its always been, goal scoring, maybe give caufield a bit more time to hopefully be a solution to that problem.

fair point but just think what the habs would have if they moved kk, galchenyuk, drouin, mete, earlier. sometimes they hold on for too long.

Schneider is not available. Lundqvist would be, but not sure that would be one for one.

sure or they could develop prospects better, either way Caufield's ceiling is needed more in MTL then anyone they could trade 1 for 1

Then trade Armia, Toffoli, Hoffman, or Gallagher before you trade the 21 year old on a rebuilding team.

A top 6 RW that can score is exactly what NYR needs though?

Unless you’re saying that Caufield hasn’t established himself as a real top 6 player yet?

He has 9 goals in 59 career games. i wouldnt say hes a top 6 rw in the nhl, as someone who is supposed to be known for his "shot" ide expect that number to be slightly higher than 1/6. Thats averaging 13.67 goals over an 82 game pace. not exactly what ide want to see if i was acquiring him for a still highly rated d prospect even in abundance. rangers could get a better quality now player if they were dealing lundqkvist away.

I heard Drury has been in the market for a top 6/9 RW for a while?

There are other options of course, but our direction hasn't been solidified yet. I'm looking at possibilities, and I don't believe this one has been explored, but is at least worth discussing.

Unfortunately true. Drafting and development issues have persisted for too long.

That's fair, but we also aren't just looking at one player on their offside, but to the future post-Savard and Petry. We will need up and coming RD.

Can't judge Lundkvist as high value based on a small sample of games, any more than you can judge Caufield as low value. It's a risk/reward for both sides, with the potential to address their needs.

disagree, lundkvist has played less than half of the games caufield has, and hasnt played poorly. This is his first time in the nhl (caufield saw nhl action last year) and like i said before caufields biggest strength was supposed to be his shot and he really isnt showing it. hes also a super negative player this year. either they really sheltered him last year or hes not as good as his debut was.

either way if the rangers wanted a top 6 right now winger i think they could get that by trading lundkvist and not taking a huge risk in caufield. for example youre telling me kessel wouldnt be a good fit there?

This year he's been bumped to the 3rd line a lot because Ducharme can't figure out how to make this team work. Shooters need to get the puck in good places and it just isn't happening. His ability is there, but his shooting percentage dropped over 10% (to 1.4) and he's getting less shots. That's obviously not going to hold up.

Trading for a rental is another option, but Caufield would be a long term solution.

if they are trading lundkvist i dont think they would purely pull a rental. they also have kakko who is developing, kravstov in khl, etc.
