Winnipeg Jets 2022-23

Créé par: owenthearmchairgm

Description
A look at how the Jets could start the 2022-23 season.

- Schmidt and Dillon shipped out to create cap space and space for younger players.
- Copp, Comrie, Beaulieu, among the names not resigned.
- Kravtsov acquired as a potential top six forward.
- Vesalainen traded out for a fresh start, similar to Kravtsov.
- Nathan Smith signed, could potentially force his way into lineup
- Stastny returns on one year deal.

This team has more cap flexibility and is much younger than the current Jets team. Could be some growing pains with so many youngsters but I feel that it is necessary for them to continue their development.

Why would they Jets add to Vesalainen to get Kravtsov? Kravstov is a malcontent that has asked for a trade and Vesalainen has shown he can play while Kravstov hasn't. The Jets should have no interest in that trade, just keep the better player and give him more minutes.

dubois should be fine for a 7.85M deal (-650K)
stastny should be affordable for 2.5M (-1.25M)
svech hasnt been amazing, but not bad either. lower it to 1.3M (-450K)
ditch bortuzzo and rowney, and sign a dman for 900K (-1.5M)
kravtsov hasnt played much in the NHL, sign him for 800K (-700K)

then sign copp for 4.75M x however long

Yeah, I don't mind some of the ideas here, but I can't see why people think Kravtsov has such incredible value. I wouldn't give up the 2nd alone for him. It's not like he gives the Jets something they're missing, they have left shot wingers out the wazoo.

I just can't fathom giving up a high pick and an NHL player for a guy that hasn't shown he can even crack a roster.

Schmidt has been arguably one of the top defenders on the team, not sure why jets would move him or why he’s only worth a 3rd rounder

To cut losses before he turns into an anchor they'd have to pay to get rid of, same with Dillon.

Zero interest in Kratsov or any other LH anything.
Trade Harkins for Appleton or another “right handed” RW, not another lefty.
Since your shipping Dillon to NJ, add Vesalainen. + to him and get Severson in return.
Schmidt to whoever for picks I’m ok with.
Trade Scheifele to improve the RW
Lastly, trade or buyout Wheeler.

As for re-sign values…
PLD 8yrs x 7.5m
Stastny 1yr x 2.5m
Svech 2yrs x 1.25m

UFAs…
Sign Rakell 5yrs x 5.5m
No to all the other UFAs
If cap room is needed, trade DeMelo for a 3rd and sign Justin Braun

Connor - PLD - Rakell
Ehlers - Perfetti - ???
Svech - Stastny - Appleton
Toninato - Lowry - Reichel

Morrissey - Severson
Samberg - Pionk
Stanley - DeMelo/Braun

At 30 and with 3yrs left at just under $6M. I understand the 3rd. But would Winnipeg trade him for a 3rd.

Idk, not sure what Chevy is ever really thinking.

Could they really get any better for him? Most teams are in a cap crunch, I'd be happy if they could break even on Schmidt (and Dillon) and move some of their many D prospects into the lineup, really don't think the Jets are going anywhere as they're currently built, not that Schmidt is part of the problem but they have plenty of D prospects that look to be ready so moving Schmidt makes sense.

I'd give up Washington's 2nd round pick for Schmidt. Detroit has some promising d prospects as well but they are further away from the NHL
