No way this happens, but it would be interesting if they retained on Price and took Weber's contract, to a net difference of $0, while also coming in $10-12M under the cap (legally) as a result. XD

Get real Letang stays in Pittsburgh for 2 x $5,000,000 and that Lafreniere trade is a joke as none of those pieces get Lafreniere. And on what planet can the Cap afford Carey Price for 4 x $7.500,000 they don't have the cap space for Price.

Even still they're going to be cap strapped, And zero chance of Arizona retaining on 4 years of Price. No team is going to retain for that many years without a 1st and 2nd round pick and a B prospect coming back

The contracts are equal length, but Weber's salary is about $24M lower than his cap hit in that time, so they would save that much actual cash while still getting an $8M cap hit. If they retained $3M on Price, they would still save $12M cash, but would have an $11M (ish) cap hit per season.

Again, not happening, just interesting to think about.
(Maybe net zero was the wrong way to phrase that. Zero dollars added might be more appropriate.)

Yeah that would be the very minimal they'd accept, But still then i don't see Montreal giving up 2 top 10 picks without at least conditions met like top 5 protection.

I think the going rate for retention is the Marleau deal. It was a 1st round pick for 6M cap dump. Now that’s over one year but it gives an idea as to what it would take to dump salary on another team. So I’m this example with Carey, if it’s 3M retained by Arizona but for 4 years, that’s 12M. As a rough estimate of what that retention would cost, it would like be something around 2 first round picks (so the 1st and Lapierre for example would go to Arizona) maybe a bit less since the per year retention is less so it’s a lot more manageable but it would cost quite a bit for a team to retain 12M even if it’s over 4 years

As a habs fan I’d sign off on the Toffoli deal and the Chiarot deal. That would be great work!
I wouldn’t do the Edmundson deal. I’d hold on, and I think Lavoie is a bust.
        Lafreniere trade wouldn’t happen…pipe dream
Carey price trade, that’s a tough one. For sure nothing happens until he comes back and proves he can play. And even then I think that’s a pretty big haul for price and Arizona would need to be compensated handsomely to retain 3M over 4 years, there wouldn’t be much left over for us.

Yeah that would be the very minimal they'd accept, But still then i don't see Montreal giving up 2 top 10 picks without at least conditions met like top 5 protection.

Be better for them to just take Seabrook from TB get a 7 million dollar cap hit completely insured no way they are retaining that much that cheap Detroit got a 4 to retain less than 500k and cash strapped AZ RETAINS 12 million for a 2 never happening

I only looked at 2 proposals (Price to WAS and Laf to MTL) and wish I could unsee that

What the hell is that Lafreniere deal? A cap dump, a bottom-6 defensive forward who sucks offensively and 2 late first round picks for the 1st OA pick form 18 months ago? I'm sure the Rangers would jump on that!

Montreal medias have been trying HARD to tell the fanbase that a quick retool is IMPOSSIBLE, due to the number of long-term contracts overpaid vets. They have been trying to say to people to NOT expect the team to be able to trade everyone within a year. What does that mean? That a lot of players don't have any value, or barely any value.

Some Habs fan : they continue to ask the moon for every player and make the whole fanbase look bad. I live here, not everyone is delusional. Please ignore these

Literally zero teams will give up half of that for Price.

        Half? You're generous

Caps wouldn't give Samsonov alone for Price. Why would they give a much cheaper 24 y/o promising goalie for a guy 10 years older, who has a very long injury list history and would still have a 7.5 AAV (even with 3.0 retained) for 4 years?

Caps are close to the cap, why would they ruin their situation to do that?

Also, yeah, no one is going to give a Hendrix Lapierre's caliber prospect

Why should Montreal consider the Edmundson deal exactly? Basically you are trading our best defensive D man for a prospect who could be a bust already, as there are concerns of Klefblom never returning. IF we trade Edmondson it will likely bring us a 1st + good prospect, not an injured player who may never play again and a possibly bust prospect. By this value we should be able to get Nurse for Vejdemo + Weber

I agree. I'm trying to point out the interesting way Weber's contract would nullify the retention cost if the contracts were combined, that's it.

Yeah it really doesn't. AZ was late paying bonuses for players, late on building rent (to the point they had 24 hours or get completely locked out including offices.) Late paying federal state and local taxes. These weren't mistakes by Bob in accounting. These were ohh s*** we don't have the money things.

I would pay a 1st and a 2nd for Toffoli. I dont yhink he gets more than that though

It's too much. He's not having a great season comparatively speaking to last year. LAK traded him for a 2nd and Madden around this production.

LAK trade is irrelevant as he was a pending UFA
