Kapanen > Olofsson

Before olofsson's injury this year I would disagree, after his injury it is closer for sure

I mean you could argue Olofsson is better, but Kapanen has certainly been better the past 2 years. This year they are tied with points, but Olofsson has played less games however he is a -12 while Kapanen is a +3

I mean... he plays on top 3 worst teams in the nhl so plus minus isnt really a great measure. if it was jakob chychrun would be a cap dump

I'm not even sure Foligno would be considered less. Leafs paid for 'grit' and 'leadership' from a player who had produced at a big rate on a more offensive team before. Oloffson has none of the intagibles and is a liability on ice outside of the power play. There's also much bigger competition this year among forwards. Olofsson won't get a 1st in return.

I mean he has a higher ppg than foligno, is younger, and isnt a ufa... the majority of his points this year have come at 5v5. The intangibles sure helped last year for sure tho, especially wearing his dads old hat

When the majority of points are at 5on5 and he gives up more than he gets (a trend across his entire career), he's a liability.

Like I said above, hard to not give up more than you get when you have consistently played on a bottom 3 team your whole career. I think a team may give a late first for him and if not they should keep him rather than take a gamble on a second round pick that they hope turns into what olofsson already is

This is the common response to criticism of Olofsson's defense. The logical thing to do would be to look at his results compared to his teammates to get rid of the 'bad team' aspect of it. Let's take a second to do that:
olofsvi95

You can see as a whole, Buffalo generates about 0.3-0.4 more expected goals per 60 minutes Olofsson is on the ice while giving up around .7-.8 more. He is a massive negative even when only comparing him to his teammates on that bottom 3 team.

Does this take his entire career into account or just this year? I would be interested to see game by game basis this year because since he has returned from injury he has been noticeably off

This is just this year but it doesn't get better when looking at past seasons too. Olofsson's defense has always been the issue.

I will never argue his defense, as I would never with risto and look what they got for him. Although you may bring up the intangibles there but I hope that is not the case.

YES, it’s horrible
It’s worse than your Zucker + Kapanen for Mitts & Okposo

You really need to understand this:
We don’t want Zucker, he has ZERO value
Heck, with his Cap hit & the way he’s produced, he’s actually got negative value imo right now
And besides all that, you also want us to return half of Okposo’s cap?
Dude, you’re dreaming
It’s not a video game

Also…. IF we trade Olofsson….
And that’s a big IF….
It’s most likely gonna be to get a top4 RD
We aren’t trying to trade him
And we certainly wouldn’t move him for another winger
It just wouldn’t make sense

You’ve gotta let this trade idea, and all variations of it, go
It’s just not what we are looking for at all

For arguments sake, let’s just say Kapanen is a little better than Olofsson right now

You still want us to send you Okposo (who’s playing really well for us) at a 50% discount,
so his cap hit is 3.0mil for you
And u want us to take Zucker, who’s production has totally bottomed out, AND since we’d be keeping 50% of Okposo’s cap, Zucker essentially costs us 8.5mil

There’s just NO CHANCE we’d do that
NO team would dude
Zucker is a pure Cap dump at this point,
especially in this trade scenario

If you’d wanna give us Kapanen in order to take Zucker off your hands…. then ok, that makes a lot more sense
But you wouldn’t be getting Olofsson (or Mittelstadt) in that deal- NO WAY
And we might not even be willing to give u Okposo at 50% off
