Clearly you didn't hear JBB's mid sesson presser where he stated TB won't be active because he's not giving up really good young players on excellent contracts

It works for Tampa, but I'd push for the trade without Fortier. If push came to shove though, and Fortier had to be a part of it, so be it. Getting 2 years of max retention would cost a little extra. Tampa's defense would be quite impressive with Hedman, McD, Serg, Cernak, Severson, Rutta and Bogo. The cap would also work and the trade likely fits the timeline of where both teams are.

Joseph is a decent 3rd liner, but nothing more. Foote may eventually reach that top 4 dman level, but he's still at least a couple years from that, being generous. If Tampa could get a legit top 4 RD in Severson for 2 more runs, moving out a 3rd liner that likely asks for too much next year(not sure why though given his play), and a young dman that would be a playoff liability this year, they should have no problem doing that. A late 1st is a late 1st, and JBB has shown no problem moving those to improve the team. Fortier is actually the piece I would not want to include as I believe he has some future potential in Tampa, but again, he wouldn't be a deal breaker if NJ drew.a line in the sand over him.

This is a type of Severson trade the Devils would be looking for

They might or might not take it (depends on Seversons willingness to resign)

TB management thinks a lot more about It's young players Joseph Katchouk and Raddysh specifically than people on here do

Maybe Joseph can find the ability to score in NJ or elsewhere, but he's easily moveable if a good trade option came up. Raddysh and especially Katchouk should get some more time, but Joseph doesn't warrant any real raise in Tampa nor deserves to take a roster spot moving forward from any other possible talented youngsters. Tampa should move him in a package this year for some value rather than sinking another 750k-1 million in extra valuable cap space next year on Joseph.

Would Yanni Gourde, Carter Verhaeghe, Jonathan Marchassault been maybe able to find their scoring touch elsewhere. TB management just isn't ready to have another extremely talented young winger go right on the precipice of being great

TB has this annoying ability to have guys at age 24-25 all of a sudden become stars Carter Verhaeghe age 25 13 points in 52 games age 26 36points in 48 games : Jonathan Marchassault age 25 18 points in 45 games age 26 51 in 75 games: Yanni Gourde age 25 8piints in 20 games age 26 64 in 82games played. Which they see happening with guys like Joseph Katchouk and Raddysh

Joseph is nowhere near the player any of Gourde, Verhaeghe or JAM were. He's more like JT Brown 2.0. He's not worth committing to long-term and definitely not worth anything more than what he's making now. He's not "on the precipice of being great" and moving him.as part of a package for a player that might actually help them win when it matters is 100% the right move.

Well, Joseph is not one of those "really good young players" and Severson would be on "excellent" contract till 22-23 with that retention.

Detroit only have two retention slots and need them for their own players at the deadline. If you want Detroit to retain salary you'll have to offer a lot more than a 4th and a player that we could have had for free on waivers.
