Quoting: Trickster
Sure, my reasoning on Texier is that Johnson will replace and they still have Roslovic to help insulate young guys.
Bear, TDA looks to emerging as the 2 RD for Carolina and with Nino and Trocheck contracts up..
They will need a player.
The Chicago trade is cap dump but when Mzraek is healthy, he is decent and I feel I have given enough assets here to help with cap blow.
Arizona needs players, this gets the a D man who is young but definitely 3rd pair for low cost.
Holl, I think Caps have enough holes next season and this is low cost add.
Campbell, front loading the contract is key.
Have him make majority of the money in the earlier years and I feel Campbell extension will happen during this season to the free agent frenzy.
If you dont know what a front load loaded contract is, go look at Tavares for example... real money in his first year was 15 million and his money in future years is declining
I get all your points except for CBJ and CAR. Starting with CAR, we don’t need Kerfoot, as we already have too many C, and he isn’t a top 6 LW, which we really need. SAD is also a C, so that is another fairly useless asset to the Canes. Bunting would be intriguing, but outside of him, there really would not be anyone of real interest to the Canes. TDA for now is 1RD, and Bear has been really good for us, and the Canes have the cap space to fit both in next year. Trocheck is likely leaving via FA, but Nino will probably stay and resign for about 4milx4. This move is just bad asset management.
Now for CBJ, even if Johnson replaces him Texier at C, CBJ could just move Texier to one of the wings. You are also dumping Ritchie on CBJ, and with the contract he has, it would take a bit more just to dump him. And what remains from dumping Ritchie, I really don’t think CBJ will value it high enough to justify trading Texier.
Last thing is with how good Campbell has been for the last couple years, at the very least he ends up with a cap hit of 5mil or more. I get Front-loading it would be ideal, but you really can’t guarantee that he will resign with Toronto. A team that is very desperate for goaltending, like Seattle, Buffalo, Arizona, Chicago, Colorado, or even Edmonton might offer Campbell a contract with a base cap hit of, maybe 7.5mil, Leafs won’t be able to afford that and he would leave. This would be especially true if Toronto doesn’t make it out of the 1st round this year, as with previous years, the goalie has been made the scapegoat.
