He has not looked great in the playoffs , and as I watch it looks like he can't keep up anymore. We will have to see how he preforms in the 2nd half

You mean the playoffs where he was playing through recovering from a broken hand? He returned what 4 games before the playoffs and at less than 100%.

I mean most likely sabres will be contenders before montreal...

Habs are not 100% rebuilding, I just think they have too many players with substantial value to trade all of them away. I don't think they will end up rebuilding

That would be a damn mistake if they think they can retool on the fly

Honestly you're asking the wrong question. The Sabres are building this the proper way, there's no need to go out and get high priced old guys that have a massive amount of term left. Gallagher's contract will only hinder our ability to retain young high end talent in 3-4 years time. It's not a fit.

I agree 100% on gallagher, no real need but when you are going to have to spend 20 mil to hit the cap floor this summer I get scared of what they might do

Gallagher is worth a 1st and a good prospect. He has averaged 30 goals the last 4 years with good defence. The main play driver for the best 5v5 line in hockey for the past 3 years. People saying hes a cap dump are idiots. Every contending team would love a Gallagher.

and last season, and the season before that. bad contract, az will take on his contract in a year or 2

Ovechkin had 24 goals in 45 games last season. Do you look at that and say he's not a 40 goal scorer? If the season is called off tomorrow, he only has 24 goals right now. That's two years where he hasn't scored 30 goals?

I guess that means malkin has 246 points this year. Just the way your logic works

It's not "my" logic. That's how you evaluate players in a shortened season. It's either statistically irrelevant due to small sample size (Malkin) or it's a continuation of a trend from a larger sample (Gallagher).
Gallagher scored at a 31.78 rate / 82 games for 4 seasons. If you add this season, it's 30.13. A 25 game sample isn't very significant. So of course you wouldn't use a 1 game sample.

but the season isnt called off tommorow, typically means usually, 2 out of 9 seasons is by no means a typical occurence

Can't decide if you're being deliberately obtuse or education standards have declined considerably more than I've been lead to believe.

Sign free agents to 1 year deals and then trade them at the deadline. Like Taylor Hall, for instance.

No. I'm trying to explain that "on pace" is relevant for evaluation with a sufficient sample size. Gallagher has been on pace for 30 goals over the last 5 seasons (even when you factor in this season's poor results).
That's a fact, I'm not moving anything.

Comparing a 50 game season to an 82 game season, 1:1, results in a distorted evaluation. One goal every 2 games is the same as 2 goals every 4 games, is the same as 20 goals every 40 games.
Of course the number of goals is higher with more games played, but you're moving the goalposts by changing the number of games. The goals per game of 0.5 remains constant regardless of games played.

I'd move Hronek for Sabres 2nd

Why? That’s horrible value for Hronek.

Gallagher isn’t on pace for 30 goals this year. He’s on pace for 13 so not sure if you meant it to say that but that’s how it reads.

No. The previous 4 years. I said this year included (5 years total), he still has a 30 goal pace. The last 25 games haven't dropped that average below 30 yet, because it's a small stretch of games compared to his body of work.

That’s just a weird way of looking at it. What you’re providing is a rolling average and the way it reads is pace for each season. It’s also weird to say he isn’t a 30 goal guy when he’s been consistently in that .37-.4 G/PG for 4 consecutive years. If he has another down year next year then okay sure revisit this notion of 30 goals. Some will point to small sample size last year but then that applies to this year so I guess whatever you can’t please everybody.

I'm the one saying he's a 30 goal scorer. Other guy is just looking at raw numbers and counting the 30's.

The other guy has an illogical argument and clearly based on what they posted you’re not going to change their mind. Some people on this site would rather continue down a BS comment than admit they’re wrong and actually learn something.
