Quoting: Cabbie91
The rumor is a young roster player, top prospect and at least one 1st round pick. Thats why I added Anderson as opposed to say..Brandt Clarke for example. Maybe they prefer someone like Kempe?
I know what the ask is, but the ask for Eichel was a lot more than they ended up getting. For example, instead of the required "Byfield or Turcotte++", Buffalo got Krebs -- an pretty unanimous downgrade. Instead of a "young player" they got a 25 year old that's broken 50 points once in his career and has never gotten close again (and I say that as a fan of Tuch). Instead of a desired lottery pick in 2022, they got what will be a pick likely in the late 20's, if not early 30's. And finally, instead of another 1st round pick or something else, they got a 2nd round pick pushed a year out that will likely be in the late 50's/early 60's.
My point is I don't think Arizona is going to get what the "rumor" is. I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings could get away without sending Turcotte or Clarke (and obviously not Byfield). In all honesty, my guess for the Kings counter-offer is Vilardi, one of Grans, Spence, or Faber, and the 2022 1st rounder. They don't need to give in to Arizona's demands of the team, they just need to beat the next closest offer. And I'm not sure many teams can beat that offer. If Arizona says no, oh well. The Kings continue moving forward with their rebuild. Defense isn't where the Kings have issues (outside of the PK).
Which leads me into the Kempe conversation. That's also going to be a no. The Kings haven't had a 30 goal-scorer since Kopitar in 2017-18, and despite me thinking he'd be trade bait at the beginning of the season, he's proving too valuable to a team that struggles to score.
That being said, I think Chychrun would be a great acquisition for the Kings. Just not at the expense of assets that would create more holes than solutions.
