Kanes rumored ask

Créé par: Byrr
Équipe: 2021-22 Maple Leafs de Toronto

Description
Toronto among 6 teams rumored to be in on Kane.(Vegas, Tampa, Carolina, Florida, Edmonton)
Same source has the ask at 1.5-2 mil aav for the 1 year contract.

Have to trade Mikheyev to make room. He's basically a rental at this point who's requested a trade already in the past. The upgrade between Kane and him is undeniable anyway.

We also know the Leafs sent scouts to the Barracuda's AHL games. There's basis for it outside of Traikos.

His on ice impact can be great but man the off ice issues don’t seem to stop. But I see it as a sort of low risk, high reward deal

I see it as an issued that is mostly solved by the San Jose contract termination. He no longer has the cap hit/term that would be the problem, now the gamble is down to a 850,000 cap hit (in this case). If he causes problems, taxi squad him.

We've already seen how badly Dubas wants a power forward with the contract he gave Ritchie, why not sign a forward we know can play and risk very little on it.

I would only bring him in for league min and even then I would not like it

Still has not figured it out has he

If he wants a better chance to join an NHL team money should not be the first priority and he should be willing to sign at the bare minimum rn.

Ya that’s why I said low risk high reward. He shouldn’t expect a lot of money on this contract because most contending teams are cap strapped. As a middle 6 winger he’d be really good on any team. Can the leafs afford him? I can see a contending team offering him 1.5 max

The Leafs would need to move someone to fit the higher ends of 1.5-2. The interesting thing would be if they could pay the upper amount available as a signing bonus so it doesn't get pro-rated and use that to keep the total cap hit down. 1.5 mil aav with 750k as a signing bonus type of thing.

Not a bad idea. Ultimately it’ll come down to whether front offices think their locker rooms can handle kane

Well let's go down the path of Kane causing trouble off the ice because that's been his history. A cap hit of 1.5/2.0 million means alot to a team like Toronto which we all know is right up against the cap.

Things could very well go sour... and then what? Are you okay with dead cap space that could be used in injury situations?

Who here would be okay with that if their team was against the cap?

So lets ignore the easiest answer, the one thats usually right. Makes total sense. You might not like the guy but now you're simply being foolish.

I mean, the easiest answer is that scouts go to games all the time for no reason and that scouting a guy you know is a clear nhl player in one ahl game is utterly useless because you learn nothing from it.

Or he's a guy who hasn't played an NHL game in 6 months, or even had a training camp, so you want to see how he's doing.

How do you figure? AHL is still the 2nd best league in the world. It still shows his fitness, etc. You've gone to being foolish again. Meanwhile the list of teams is now up to over 15 according to Luke Fox but we should probably ignore him too, right?

Because it's one ahl game and you literally cant tell anything from it. Price got lit up in one before going on that playoff tear, engvall has looked like the crosby of the ahl etc etc.
There are literally a dozen other players in that game that were worth scouting that dont have a ton of nhl pro tape to watch and there was a sharks game that night that the same scouts attended which is why most of them were probably in town to start with.
And again just the fact that scouts for the leafs are literally at random games all the time for no reason.
The leafs scouts there to see kane specifically is just click bait

Or again, the simplest answer which is probably right. Its funny seeing the lengths anti-Kaners will go to argue against him since there's no good hockey reason (well there are but for some reason no one even bothers to take the time to look them up).

I mean if you wanna ignore the easiest answer that's on you.
Who said hes lying? Agents, particularly milstene leak stuff about their clients to hype them all the time and the leafs are literally always on the list to drive interest
