Description
I don't want to really trade Beauvillier either, but is this something that makes sense if there is another move ready in the pipeline? One deal doesn't happen without the other.

The Isles have enough deadline cap space to make this work. They aren't over the cap.

dont see the avs moving a top 4 dman at the deadline, they will be adding and loading up, not moving around roster players in hockey deals

Doesn't that deal open up a spot long term for Byram though? I know they are rumored to be looking for a top-6. Just not familiar enough with their lines

Isles would have to add imo, especially with how poor of a start Beau has had this season. Girard has the edge on Beauvillier in pretty much every category: younger, better value contract, more valuable position, produces more offense, etc

Where are you going to find the money to extend Hertl and Dobson? Even with trading Varlamov you'd be over the cap. You have $14M in cap with 14 players signed next season. Hertl at $8M means $6M for at least 6 more roster players. Dobson will get a decent raise, so likely $3M for 5 players...

Worrying about Byrams contract which isnt up until the following offseason isnt a concern going into the TDL
avs do not have to move girard to get someone to play in the top 6 at the deadline. They really are not hard after a top 6 fwd, would be nice but not a must to do.

Avs really just need to get a middle 6 winger who PKs and a depth Dman. They wont be doing anything too crazy at the deadline IMO, they are a solid team

I see. Dumping $10M in cap in one offseason is not something that's very common in this league.

Offseason sure that’s a conversation. avs could trade G then sigh a 2nd pair guy offset the trade. Not against it if it’s the right deal and face a replacement plan for the 2nd pair.

Byram and girard are playing together... but coga is right, you aren't sending a better roster player at the deadline for a positional need creating another positional need on your blueline.

If you want to do this trade in the offseason I'd go girard straight up for bailey

Varly has value and can be dealt easily. Bailey someone would take. Even if I didn't move him, the team fits minus Perron. It can be done

That's an awful trade for the Avalanche, the Avalance are trading Johnson before they even think about moving Girard.

Bailey is 32, Girard is 23 and has barely even touched his prime. Why would you trade an up and coming top 4 D for a declining forward over 30? Makes absolutely no sense.

Beau has had a poor start to the season, but he’s been a bit unlucky. Over the past 3 seasons he’s been a high end top 6 forward and I’d say considering their QOT , Beauvillier provides more offense. Beauvillier had the 2nd highest GF/60 on the isles last season, they wouldn’t make this trade despite isles fans wanting to trade him.

Byram is already in the top 4, because him and Girard can both play both sides and because he is a beast when healthy you don’t make a spot for him he has taken it. He already averaging 19:32, and COL isn’t trading roster players. They will add and trade prospects and picks but in no way are they trading a top 4 dman at the TDL.

This is definitely an offseason trade and I'd listen if I were Joe. They might have to toss in more on top of Beau considering he only has two more years while Sammy is cost-controlled for 5 more seasons. But the Avs are likely loosing Bura and Kadri after this season so they'll need more scoring and they can't count on Olausson to just walk in and produce 25-30 goals his first year (if he ever reaches that level). But the Avs are under no pressure to trade Sammy so they'd be wise to wait until they can't get an offer they can't refuse or just simply hang onto him and enjoy his production.

Heavily protected enough for my liking. Like I said one move doesn't happen without the other here. I think it positions out pretty nicely to continue to build the next couple seasons

The most likely outcome is we pick in the 6-10 range - I’m taking one of those high end forwards over a 29 year old Hertl any day. We don’t need another Palmieri/Ladd, We’re going back to the dark days if more late 20’s players get long term deals. It’s pretty much a guarantee.

The isles should be sellers this season and the goal for the offseason should be to target players who’s stock has fallen but have upside. For forwards that includes debrusk, comtios and Labanc, On D that would be Dermott, Brannstrom, Valimaki. This team is in no position to give up a 1st round pick for any player that isn’t an elite forward under the age of 25.

I agree hes been unlucky, his oiS% is bound to increase but I still dont think hes valuable enough to get Girard 1 for 1. I wouldnt call him a high end top 6 forward, his highest scoring season is 39 points... Hes a 2nd line forward in my eyes.

In terms of QOT I dont know the updated numbers but the last ive seen (from last season) both players were around the 80th percentile. Id imagine Beauvillier's has dropped this season but there was also a drop in production to match. I dont know if thats enough to bridge the gap between Girard's and Beau's offensive production. And even if it is, remember were comparing a D man to a forward here, even being close is pretty impressive for a D man

Id be looking for a better forward in return if I was Sakic

I guess the point I'm trying to make is from the isles perspective it makes no sense to trade Beauvillier 1 for 1. They can't afford to trade a forward with Beauvillier's skillset for a defenseman. Obviously Girard is very good, but he does benefit from the Avs having elite finishing talent. If Girard was on the isles, his production would decrease and Beauvillier's points would skyrocket because he would likely get more ice time. Beauvillier's rate numbers were very good at 5v5 last season.

I would say he's a fringe 1st line forward.
