Does this solve the goaltending problem? Both smith and price have been sidelined in recent years for extended periods of time. Combined they haven’t even played 1/3 of this season. Both are under contract for next year so what happens to skinner moving forward? Because of the current make up of roster skinner is the most important prospect we have. The team is highly unlikely to trade smith so either he retires or we can’t bring in a goalie with term. Swapping kosk out for another goalie only seems to work if it’s a rental.

Easy no from Caps, Dowd is a great cost-effective 4C, and is worth much more to Caps than a 4th. They have no room and use for Turris.

If I am Habs, I day kick rocks. I do not want to take back two bad contracts , retain on two players and get only one 1st. Habs could trade Tofolli with retention and get a 1st alone. So now the price of CP with retention is a 2nd a 3rd a 5th and two bad contracts. For that Habs keep him.

Toffoli would even be a second and a first, even with no retention. This makes it even worst for the habs

Edm can probably go and get Campbell from TO as a UFA during the offseason. He's been a top goalie for the past two years. Probably cheaper than trying to get a goalie through trade. Offer him 6 MIL AAV . Good goalie. Then use the assets you would of given up for a goalie to just strengthen the other problematic areas/DEPTH

Valid point which would require careful evaluation of Price's medical records and permission to have a conversation. I'd also want to see him in action before a trade. Do your due diligence and then decide if Price is the guy for the next 2-3 years. Have Skinner develop behind him and transition to tandem, then starter when he's ready. Rodrigue gets development in the AHL in the meantime along with a 3rd string veteran.
Hopefully that secures the goaltending for the immediate future and beyond.
