Description
I am not a 100% sure of Klingberg's value as he is having a down year and being an UFA at the end of the year but flame away

While losing ANOTHER first sucks and rathbone Van aquires another Legit top 4 nhl RHD which is a huge need for us. while he is having a down year with the Stars i think that's due to the system he plays. I think he would really flourish under Bruce. one of Klingberg's biggest strengths is his transition game. Which for a run and gun team like Vancouver is very Vaulable. While he might not be the pure Shutdown chris tanev esc Dman he is still very capable in his own zone. while also being a good locker room addition with being friends with OEL and another Veteran Swede to help Pettey

The way i see it from Dallas point of view is they get a pick in the 11-20th range to help kick start a rebuild while getting one of the better Dman Prospects in the league for a guy that isn't going to re-sign. Poolman and Hamonic can be flipped at the TDL for some more pieces with some money retained they are mostly in the deal for cap reason. while throwing in some picks to help with the cost of taking on the full contracts. While neither contract is that much of cap dump. the way i see the Trade is Rathbone and 1st for Klingberg and a 3 and 4th to take on Poolman and Hamonic who are serviceable nhl Dman. with them either of their contracts being short or not much money

The need for another top 4 RHD does not make the cost to bring in Klingberg worthwhile, Canucks will have to find another cheaper option

No top 4 Right-handed defenseman is cheap buddy, that's just the reality of the market

My point? He is the value we can get for top4 RHD we can get right now on the market. A 1st/2nd pick isn't going to do you any good 3 years down the line our core doesn't have the patience for another rebuild and that's the railtity of it.

I'm not saying the Canucks should stop pursuing this need, of course it's important to fill that part of the roster with adequate depth. Just because a team isn't rebuilding doesn't mean they are in a comfortable position to trade away high draft picks. Vancouver has a one of the more shallow prospect pools in the league, they haven't been consistently good for long enough enough that they are comfortable with trading more valuable future assets for a single positional need, and there is the risk that Klingberg only comes out to being a rental considering how rich of a contract he's asking for beyond this season. Klingberg isn't the answer
