Why would Boston trade a 4th? All they have to do is wait 3 months and sign Harris as a FA. Engels said yesterday that he was told last season that Harris was not signing in Montreal and that Harris said Boston would be an absolute dream to play for. Harris didn't tell any of this to Engels but that is what Engels was told.

why? price hasn't played all season and even if his salary is cut in half his contract is still too long.

Well ya common sense prevails, he would have to be ready to return, be practicing, and do a conditional stint in Laval or something before any deal was made, all that stuff. So I'm not arguing a deal be made today or the immediate future for him.

But IF he is ready, and thats a big if, and Montreal took half his salary, that's 5.25 for 4.5 years. Which seems pretty average or even slightly below average for a number 1 goalie. I know his regular season numbers aren't jaw dropping over the last few years, but his playoff numbers the last 5 years where he's played at least 6 games are stellar. .919 (12 games), .920 (12 games), .933 (6 games), .936 (10 games), .924 (last year 22 games).

The return isn't crippling either. Lavoie is a project, Samorukov is behind Broberg and they also have Neimalainen, Bourgault is really the only significant piece but I think its worth the risk. Also, what are the alternatives?? Georgiev? Driedger? Ullmark (worse contract that Price 1/2 retained).

I respectfully disagree with you guys, I think Price would fit well, and I wrote why.

i don't see him as a undisputed #1 goalie. he was outplayed by allen. while price has had some success in the playoffs he also choked in the final. half those stats your using came more than 5 seasons ago. price is now 34 and has known addiction issues both if which are huge red flags. 4.5 years is just too long. if he was a $5m goalie for 2 years this would be a maybe.

In games 4 and 5 he had a .941 and .967 respectively. His team also scored 7 goals in 5 games. So I don't think you can put all that on Price by saying he "choked" against an absolute wagon of a Lightning team. I don't think anyone was beating that team.

I'm not going to comment too much on the addiction thing. If he's getting the help he needs, theres no reason to just write him off. Lots of players go through issues and come back to finish their careers well. And like I said earlier, a trade is dependent on his health (physical and mental). If he's still nowhere close by March, then obviously theres no deal to be had.

And regarding the stats I posted, it shows he is very consistent in the playoffs, and those stats are his most recent 5 years in the playoffs. Besides, if I had posted only 1 or 2 years worth, you could've just argued it is too small of a sample size. I'd rather have a larger sample size that shows consistency.

i'm not counting price's w/l in the final. i'm talking about his individual stats, he had a . 3.2gaa and a 888sv. not what you want when it counts the most.

the trade can't be independent of his health because he'll carry the potential of those problems with him for the rest of his career. you have to factor that into the trade.

price is known to play better in the playoffs but he's 34 now and goalie that age have been known to regress too. it's a huge gamble considering the length of his contract. you have to factor that risk into the price as well.
