Description
The Oilers can lean on their Top 6 so much that I think they could run their bottom 6 like this instead of needing a shutdown line and a 4th line of grinders.

Done deal for Montreal, no take backs. You could have had him for a 4th though lol

bernier's out for with an injury for the rest of this season, i wouldn't rely on him as a consistent starter next year

As a candidate for season-opening LTIR, he could make sense for a team near the ceiling. Devils aren't pushing the limit, so it makes no difference to us, we have to pay him just the same without any cap impact. But if a team like Oilers can swap dead salary (non-injured) dead salary, they can benefit from the relief that Devils won't use.

So if they want Skinner full-time...or are trading for another goalie...and want to clear Smith's cap it, this is one way to do it.

Do you think the Habs would entertain trading Toffolli?

I missed the Bernier injury, thanks... I went with this trade because of Holland's history with Bernier and the fact that the Devils have Blackwood + it frees up ~2 million for them.

I think don't think the Habs are going full rebuild and I don't think Price is on the market cause if he was and they were then we would have already heard about it by now instead of all this speculation. That being said if we are rebuilding or retooling there are only 4 guys who won't be considered in trades. Those 4 are Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov and Guhle. I think offers on everyone else will be listened to but unless it is something that makes sense then it won't be considered. We aren't going to just give players away for the sake of tanking.

Oh man Hoffman next to McDavid........................... He'd be a low cost amazing pickup that benefits both teams. He hasn't played bad in MTL but the team just nosedived this year so everyone looks terrible.

Had hip surgery earlier in the week. Out for this season. Start of next season is likely on IR.

But I think the trade makes some sense as cap cleaning maneuver

I wasn't saying Hoffman played bad (I know you didn't say I did either or even imply it just used your comment to because I agree with your point of view on Hoffman) he just has not fit with the Habs as expected. Hoffman feeds off the cycle game where he can setup in the slot and wait to get his shot off. Montreal creates chances off the rush and has more or less a weak cycle game (if any at all). having Hoffman on a transition team like the Habs is just wasting his talent. I think there is a fit on teams like the Oilers or Pens or any other team that creates offense off the cycle game. Unfortunately for the Habs his value is low because his fit has not been ideal, that's why I said a 4th likely is enough to get him, had the fit produced better results then he may have gotten a 2nd. I just don't see that right now with how little he has produced this year.
