Campabee Price trade oilers next year

Description
show Campabee how a 10.5 million contract in net does not work for the oilers.
original post https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/541396?post_id=2879349

even with a roster of 20 with AHL and contract minimum they are over the cap.
This doesnt take into account the probably 1Mill in bonus overages. so your at - 3.3 mill
also went low on JP Yamo contracts.

His solution just trade Ceci. well 1st you need a taker then you need to replace another RD
Then let JP and Yamo walk now you are replace 2 RW with wingers who are probably worse.

If a price to EDM trade were to happen im not sold it does. then it has to be with 50% retained.

So you'r risking a lottery pick on a goalie who likely isn't playing this season...Is Smith going to carry the Oilers all season?

Yea, I don't see it working at all this season. Maybe the off season at 50% retained...maybe. But if I'm the Oilers, I would just go with what you have now, and go into next season with cap. Surely the Oilers can find a competent goalie for 5.25m, instead of Price retained and not giving up any assets.

It's about the worst thing Edmonton can do. Which unfortunately means Holland will at least consider it quite heavily

I agree. That was my agreement with original AGM that for there to even be a conversation it would need to be 50% retained

he might consider price... the good news is he would have to get retention as he wouldnt even be able to ice a team next year.

I'd be shocked if Price was moved without at least some retention. Even the worst gms have to know that contract is a crusher.

then:

ceci smith yamamoto foegele out, which will free up 6.95M
invest approx 1.7375M into each of their replacements

probably just add ceci to the price trade. no one else will want him. still leave the oilers with no depth, unable to qualify lehky.

thus torpedoing your team of any depth and making it worse which was my original comment to the original trade.

It makes 0 sense from an oilers perspective to bring in an aging goalie who yes can still play well. it it means having a weaker all around team.
Look at them now... you think removing those players with cheaper replacements is going to be the solution absolutely not.

The oilers have about 5 mill in the cap they can use next year for a starting goalie while still keeping a decent team.

No, actually, they're not. Even trading Foegele for nothing coming back (i.e., draft picks or prospects) doesn't allow a 23-man roster, because even if they then trade picks or prospects for a minimum-level contract player ($750,000) with 50% retention ($375,000), they're still $128 over the cap.

The OP has already refuted your second suggestion on practicality grounds.

@mm1010 has proved his thesis: the proposed trade without significant retention by Montreal is impossible. Not disadvantageous, not impractical, but impossible.

Habs are not rebuilding, they will only retool. They can't go more than 2 years without playoffs before the fans start screaming for new management.
