Price is an absolute nonstarter at anything less than 50% retained salary. Edmonton is instantly 5 million over cap next year with this.

I agree with others that Price needs to be retained absolutely. Otherwise though, I honestly think the return you listed for each one is pretty good. Maybe another piece or two for Price due to retention. And I could see Lehkonen for Barrie needing more too.

You could add a bit more for Price. Probably Ilya Konovalov and a 2nd. Lehky could get more than barrie he is more valuable. Add maybe a 3rd or so. Lavoie should be added as well in the deal for Chiarot

I thought about adding a bit more but was trying to give a bit of a discount on each player since it was a package deal lol.

No look at the longterm tab they have 8 Mil space available next year to split mostly between Yamamoto and Puljujarvi. Took back enough cap to make the deal work for both sides

I actually made sure to take enough salary back with term to leave the Oilers 8.3 mil to sign their RFA's and FA's next year. No need for retention if you are good capwise

Just by moving Barrie? And that money will get eaten up quick by Pool and Yamamoto I'd imagine. Sorry if I missed a move

8 mil next year, 22 mil the following year, 24 Mil in year 3 and 28 Mil in year 4. Of course you will need to resign players but by bringing in entry level contracts and moving fringe players out your cap will work beyond next season.

Barrie, Turris, Kassian and Koskinen = 13.85 Mil I only sent back 13.4 Mil this year and after that Chiarot becomes a FA and Lehkonen is an RFA so you can choose to resign them and hope Yamo and Pul sign team friendly deals or let them walk.

still doest work you have to factor probably 1 million. leaving 7 million to sign 12 players... at least 4 will be going to JP 2-3 for Yamo... no for Mcleod and another LD after Chairot leaves as a UFA and another RD when Russell is gone and a 3 RW....

so yeah 50% retained or the conversation doesnt even happen

Your kidding right?! Russell is not a big loss since Bouchard will move up and Ceci is still signed (or resign Russell and move Ceci) then call up Broberg and Kesselring to play 2LD and 3RD, McCloud insn't getting a huge raise and if he does move Ryan and bring up Marody. There are tons of ways for you to make the cap work IF you want a serious shot at a cup.

Yeah 8.3 million in cap space with… ELEVEN ROSTER PLAYERS.

If you want to carry 23 players you need to sign 12 players for 8.3 million? Even after putting klefbom on LTIR you get a grand total of 12.5 million dollars to sign over half an NHL roster. Mcdavid, price, nurse, and draisaitl combining for 40.75 million, HALF the salary cap.

RNH, Hyman, Keith all have NMC, Ceci a NTC. There’s no one you can trade away to make the space necessary to fill out the team.

Oh yeah and puljujarvi is due what, $4 million AAV on his next deal? How can u afford that?
Simply insane to think this is a realistic trade at all

Toronto is making it work with their core 4, that's the price of going for a cup in this day and age. Gotta be willing to go through cap hell to make a playoff push.

Oilers fans are more hungup on the future than they are winning cups. Guess the other option is to keep screwing around and waste more years of McDavid and Draisaitl and see how happy they are that you saved for the future.

Toronto built their team AROUND their core four, they didn’t add a 10 million dollar contract in the middle.

Dubas paid heavy prices to move Zaitsev and marleau. He let gardiner, JVR, Bozak, all walk. Since signing the core four, he has seen Hyman, johnsson, and Anderson all leave to accommodate the cap structure.

And of course, Toronto is still forced to run a reduced roster, piece together a severely understaffed LW position, and injury risk to a core 4 could tank playoff hopes (see Tavares last year). Edmonton is not in a position to take on the same risks.

Oh yeah, and all of the core 4 players in Toronto are high end. Price is a nice piece but not in the same level as Matthews, Marner, tavares, draisaitl, or of course McDavid.

Edmonton already has several players on their team locked up for term that will get in the way of managing the cap in the same way Toronto has. Adding a $10 million player isn’t something you just do in the middle of a season for a play off push. It requires long term planning, significant roster sacrifice, and confidence that you are getting an Elite player. None of those things are happening with this Edmonton trade.

Please Price proved he was still elite last spring and this is a long term solution as he still has 4 more years, which means 4 shots at the cup for Edmonton. Eichel was just moved to Vegas who had even less cap space than the Oil have. Good GM's make the cap work when they get a great peice.
