Toronto is third in the League in GAA, and second in the Eastern Conference behind only League-leading Carolina. Why would they want to swap Holl for a rapidly declining Jeff Petry? Not to mention giving up two firsts for the privilege.

Because Petry was getting better and better every year, and declined this year while playing through injuries. Because Holl has been crap this year as well, and Toronto has a hole at 2RD, one that Petry easily fills. Because a 2nd, 3rd, plus a 4th also have more total value than a 1st, and Leafs are missing 4 picks this year, and only drafted 3 players last year. Because $3.125M for Petry is an absolute steal.

Sorry Leafs aren't trading three NHLer....Mrzarek, Holl and Mikheyev and two firsts, for the now really declining Petry...who isn't better than Holl and now the unsteady Koskinen. It's subjective but Petry hardly looks like good value this year at 3.125m and the next two years.
And Edmonton certainly doesn't make that trade with Montreal just to obtain Jake Allen. FYI, Price hasn't played this season and may never will again this season (maybe never), so it hardly helps the Oilers in net.

You are absolutely right. Toronto and Edmonton is more likely to continue wasting McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares.

Otherwise your breakdown of the trade is very "Leaf fan". Thanks

Insiders say otherwise. I also saw there is about $1M unaccounted for, but don't know your team enough to post a "Cap Dump" without it being a complete guess. My only other idea was Scandella for Chiarot (ret) and Kulak. But I already saw how much Blues fans don't know about Chiarot, so I could only imagine what they think of Kulak.

Though I agree with you, the Oilers and Leafs might need more help to put them over the top, your suggestions in the trade are so one sided for Montreal it's pitiful.
The only thing the Oilers get is the season Jake Allen and real overpay (if he ever plays) Price.
Sorry it's 2022 if you didn't really realize but the Leafs are infinitely better with a 2m Holl who plays 20 minutes a night on a good team that the failing 3.125m Petry on poor team.
As suggested by someone above, the Leafs offence and defence is fine. Leafs or no team are trading any good for Hab cap dumps.

You Leaf fans have the shortest memories. Less than a year ago Price beat your choke team, then dragged Montreal to the Stanley Cup. Its a good thing you aren't a GM. An acceptable response would be to go acquire MAF, who choked against the Habs in Round 3 (that comes after Round 1 and Round 2).

If Super Fan Steve Dangle can admit Holl sucks, you can too. I believe in you. Petry is failing due to injury, whats Holl's excuse? When Petry comes back, even if he is at 50% is twice the player Holl is.

It's kind of funny that you're taking such offence to criticism over you're completely unrealistic trade proposals here.

Holl actually lost 10+ lbs over the summer, missed a decent chunk of camp and time in early October due to a non-COVID illness.

I'm ready for a Holl replacement, but what you've proposed here isn't it.

And I've been a big Petry fan for years.

…he says, knowing that his beloved squad wasted the career of Carey Price…congrats on the Eastern Conference Championship. Flags fly forever!

Signed,

Non-Leafs fan.

Really though, and again, I’m a fan of none of the teams involved, if you take a minute to think about it:

-Edmonton can’t afford Price, even at 50% retained. Goaltending is certainly an issue for them, but there’s a lot more wrong with them that a (then 35 year old) goaltender can’t solve.
-going to keep banging the “there hasn’t been an expiring LD traded for a 1st round pick since 2015, and there’s better options to overpay for than Chiarot” drum.
-Kulak for a 3rd? Meh. Whatever.
-Lehkonen for a 2nd? Maybe. Guys pretty close to being a non tender candidate though.
-The equivalent of a late 1st+2nd for Drouin and scraps is pretty comical. Just go get James Neal…they’re both useless AF in their own end.
-But, the Leafs trade? Ouuuuuu baby. I get that Habs fans hate the Leafs, but c’mon. If you’re looking to upgrade your “shutdown” pairing, Petry ain’t it, and surely you know that?

I’m sitting on the toilet with no pants on, the shower is rolling, but first I’m having a scotch.

I get the hatred between fans of different laundry colours, but at least try to draw some comparable trades instead of the whole homer balogna. Is Chia Savard? I mean, considering how GMs have consistently overvalued big, shutdown RD’s over LD’s for friggin’ ever, I’d say no…but sure, some idiot might overpay. Everything else? G’wayyyyyyy.

Why do loser fans bring up past so much, Please tell me you're a hockey fan and can acknowledge that Price isn't playing. So him being traded to Oilers doesn't help the Oilers. Plus you have given a lot of cap for the Oilers next season..which they can 't afford. Oilers are thousand times better off, next summer with cap space with no Koshiken and keeping those three picks which you cherish.
Yep, I don't think Holl has been as good this year as last, but partly he has had to cover for Muzzin who hasn't played so well as previously either. But somehow All is a plus player, plays 20 minutes a night, kills PK and is on the 4th best GAA team . in the league. Sorry Leafs keep the 2m Holl over the declining 3.125m Petry and the Leafs keep their picks too.

What "insiders" say what exactly? The Blues have no use for either of those players. Hell, Kulak would be like their 9th defenseman. And they have 110K in space, not 1M.

Then keep him and 6.25m cap. Leafs are quite happy with Holl, his 2m and they certainly aren't going to pay those picks, Canadian fans think they are entitled too.

Then keep him and 6.25m cap. Leafs are quite happy with Holl, his 2m and they certainly aren't going to pay those picks, Canadian fans think they are entitled too.
Sure looks that 34 year old has hit the wall.

Well you clearly haven't watched a Habs game, which is understandable, because I wouldn't watch the Laffs either. But I'm also not the one proposing we trade Petry. I was just pointing out the atrociousness of your Holl>Petry comment.

It's 2022 and certainly Petry isn't showing value at age 34, I question his value now and for the next 2.5 years. But the overall post and posts by many Habs fans is they trade their overpaid players and expect high picks in return. Not this post (and there has been many ) is atrocious.

Stepan for Lehkonen is a base Carolina can probably work with, but not at the price of a 2nd, and not without retention. You might get a 4th for his full cap hit on top of Stepan.

It was the Western Conference championship. Sticking Out Tongue
Hell of a thing to win the trophy for a conference you've never been in. That'll be a fun piece of trivia some day!

Ah yes, I forgot about the almighty Canadian division! Big 'ol whoops on my end tears of joy

Cheers!
