not sure what his value would be but I factored in goalies being inconsistent and teams being hesitant to acquire large contracts such as this

fair enough
however from what i know vasi is very consistent and a 9.5M cap hit is pretty fair
if i was TBL in that situation i'd want a top goaltending prospect like wallstedt or askarov tbh

Vasilevskiy is not waiving his NMC to go from Tampa to Ottawa.

And the money in this trade might be "optimized" for Tampa, but it's not "optimized" for Ottawa.

Try again.

Vasi says no, and have you seen this team without Vasi? I know Tampa has had some pretty bad backups and thats not helping at all, but Vasi is so integral to this team that I wouldnt move him to bolster an already great defense core and Brown, who is a good player, but not miles better than other guys you could get for less. If you're trying to optimize your money, you use the 6.5 mil spent on Giroux elsewhere.

There is no point of acquiring McDonagh, it would just block the pipeline for players like romy, norlinder, guhle,Harris etc. If toffoli is
Traded ( which I dont want him to be) then Habs could acquire way better value. McDonagh is practically a cap dump

please explain to me why trading 27 year old, prime andrei vasilevskiy for a 1st, 2nd, middle 6 forward and average dman, and instead bringing in 2 average +35 goalies just to save 5m against the cap? if you include zub and brown, and the two goalies, youre only saving 700k, and most of the cap space you had is going to signing giroux and pavelski, who are both steadily declining. at that point just lose killorn and/or cirelli and bring in prospects like ryfors or a cheap depth piece. that way we don't lose the best goalie in the world and one of our best dmen for very underwhelming return and terrible fa signings

IMO Vasi is already an all-time great but... underwhelming?

Do you know any NHL deal for a goalie that returned more? Or even close to that?

Maybe you missed the 1st round pick in there...

2022 1st round pick (OTT) : That pick is most likely top-5 and pretty much guaranteed top-10 in a great draft

Zub, Artem : very solid 26 y/o top-4 RHD, rare in the NHL (ask the Lightning)

Brown, Connor ($1,800,000 retained) : Fantastic winger, an "elite 3rd liner", produces very well at EV/PK and matchups anyone. Think about a Coleman who brings more offense

2023 2nd round pick (OTT) : the 4th piece here but nonetheless, many goalies are traded for less.

As much as I'd like to have Vasilevskiy (who has a MMC anyway), Sens can't afford to do that, can't trade that 1st

And the defense without Zub would be even worse. His numbers in Ottawa wouldn't be that great, which would give the illusion to the public that he is failing.

That said, I think Mads Sogaard is going to be a beast anyway. Gustavsson looks pretty good too

Sens need to continue investing in offense/defense. Goaltending has not been their problem at all, again, despite what the average hockey fan might think
