made an NHL 22 franchise mode, felt like making a rundown of some things that have happened over the course of this franchise mode that i can remember
Patrice Bergeron left BOS to sign with MTL in 2022-23 FA... and i may or may not have traded him somewhere else in turn (dont remember where, but i wanted Suzuki as the 1C and Bergeron was "clogging" the spot)
and since Bergeron left BOS, their top line centre was Erik Haula
I had (i think) the second overall pick (from a trade, again, i dont remember many of these trades), which turned into a dude named Jakob Vasilyev. my offense was already lethal, so i traded him to DET for Moritz Seider. little did i know how much of an impact Seider would make on my team.
...aaaand Vasilyev won the Calder with Detroit lmao
i somehow managed to get the first AND second overall picks in the 2022 draft, which means that SHANE WRIGHT SZN LETS G- no wait he got sent down
Rasmus Sandin became a Canadien in a trade involving JEFF F*CKING PETRY, TJ Brodie, and Justin Holl. still surprised i pulled that off.
Matt Dumba's also on MTL, not sure how i got him though
Denis Gurianov and Jake Oettinger were saved from the wrath of DAL_AI_COACH (not an actual name, but i doubt NHL has rick bowness in the game. or any other coach for that matter)
at the 22/23 TDL, a HUGE blockbuster trade took place, sending Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Robby Fabbri, and Keith Yandle (no idea why Detroit signed him) to the Canadiens, in exchange for a package of prospects (dont remember who it involved, but i know for a fact that Jan Mysak was in it, because i proceeded to immediately get him back in a separate trade)
... and none of that paid off. We didn't make the playoffs. AAAAND CALGARY HAD THE CANADIENS FIRST (Jonathan Drouin and a first were sent to CGY for the return of Tyler Toffoli) so this was not good. oh and did i mention the highest pick MTL has is a fifth round pick?
BUT THIS IS NHL 22 WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, I CAN TRADE FOR THE FIRST OVERALL PICK, WHICH I DID. and i believe it involved five pieces; joel edmundson, two firsts (2026&2027), christian dvorak, and a second round pick in i dont remember when.
it may seem like a high price, but with the first overall pick, the Montreal Canadiens select CONNOR BE- *reads paper* Ludvig Viklund? (not a real player)
and this player just so happens to be MEDIUM FRANCHISE potential. safe to say we've found our winger for Suzuki & Caufield
in the 2023 offseason, none of Larkin, Bertuzzi, or Yandle resigned with the Canadiens. they were replaced with Vladimir Tarasenko, JT Compher, and Jonathan Toews. yes its not much
as of now, the lineup stands as (if i can remember correctly):
[87] Denis Gurianov - [87] Nick Suzuki - [88] Vladimir Tarasenko
[85] Tyler Toffoli - [82] Shane Wright - [82] Ludvig Viklund
[86] Cole Caufield - [85] Jonathan Toews - [86] Josh Anderson*
[83] Robby Fabbri - [37] JT Compher - [forgot who was here, but they're 83 ovr]
[82] Cody Glass - [81] Jesse Ylonen
[84] Rasmus Sandin - [86] Moritz Seider
[83] Alexander Romanov - [85] Matt Dumba
[81] Mattias Norlinder - [forgot who was here too]
[and theres a dman scratch]
[84] Jake Oettinger
[81] Cayden Primeau
