Sweeney Neely Cassidy fired

Créé par: CMcAvoy73
Équipe: 2022-23 Bruins de Boston
Date de création initiale: 4 janv. 2022
Publié: 4 janv. 2022
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
This management team is horrific, and pretty much have been from day one. Clean house. It’s the only way to move on from some of the recent mistakes Sweeney has made.
The Signings:
Bergeron gets an easily attainable (low games played) performance bonus bringing his total contract to $6M, allowing the team to add at the deadline with a carry over if necessary.
Hertl: I’m sure there are some wackadoos that somehow think he’s an $8M player, but i just don’t think the bidding gets that aggressive on him. I think $7M is probably the max he gets
Lindholm: I think he’s a perfect fit with McAvoy. I’m hoping he hits UFA.

Room for a couple forwards to be added as scratches. Also room for Moore to be moved out for cap savings if necessary.

Trades:
Debrusk goes to Seattle where they have the opportunity to give him a one year trial in the top six to see if he can get back to that 30 goal pace scoring. Reilly has been good, he’s been bad. Normally I would be fine with the bruins keeping him, but they need to make room on the left side. Very minimal risk for seattle.
Coyotes get a little closer to the cap floor with an okay player. It just hasn’t worked in boston. Coyotes move up a round, and a year in the draft.
The Kuemper experiment hasn’t worked in Colorado. Ullmark hasn’t necessarily been bad in boston. The numbers are pretty good, and hes cost controlled. But Tuukka is the best goaltender in franchise history. He and swayman form a duo with Swayman slowly taking more and more starts.

Sabres would love to take on Haula and Foligno as dumps if BOS is seeking to do so.

Sure thing with haula. Foligno is overpaid, but i think he adds value to boston.

Boston is a season late with their management sadly. I really would have loved for them to get Gorton. A guy from around here and someone who had been in the organization before. And with Cassidy I liked him but I agree he has to go if sweeney does. I really like Paul Maurice and he seems like a really good coach.

So.some is gonna pay hertl like 7.5 million. If you fire all the front office and the coach idk if rask and berg take less to come back then. Seems like it might push them to just move on.

Rask has said its boston or retirement for him. He’s not leaving the city.
I find it pretty hard to believe bergeron leaves boston if he’s getting $6M. Is anyone really offering him that much more?

I could see someone offering Hertl 5x7.5, i don’t see anyone offering him 7x7.5. I could be wrong though.

I could see berg getting like 2x7 from teams but I just can't see him going to Colorado or Calgary or Anaheim. Would playing for Montreal appeal to him though as a native of Quebec?

For what its worth, he grew up a nordiques fan and hated the canadiens.
He’s spent his entire adult life with them as his chief rival.
They are also horrible.
Is 1x6 with the prospect of another 1x6 with the prospect of contending, playing with marchand, and being the captain of the team he’s played his entire career for, along with not uprooting his family worse than 2x7 for a horrible montreal team, in a much worse tax market?

For what its worth, $6M in boston equates to more income than $7M in Montreal.

curious here but why do you think bruce/sweeney/neely should all go? I dont think sweeney has really done a whole lot wrong, 2015 was his first year as a gm... and well i think he was set up to fail that year.
you do realize majority of moves/direction of the team was forced on sweeney and neely by jacobs right? coming out of the 2015 draft we should have had a soft rebuild. instead jacobs wanted playoffs, hense stempniak/lyles, rick nash, etc. They have end of round picks year in and out while going through a transition. somehow make the stanley cup in 2019 with that roster. you knew once they decided to have august playoffs here it wasnt gunna happen for the B's they never start back up strong and they were still missing players etc. I think as long as a jacobs family member owns the bruins, the bruins are going to end up in the same pattern.

I think neely is a puppet, think sweeney actually hasnt been terrible, and bruce is one of the winningest coaches in the last 5 years with a 1 line team....

Not a lot of wrong? I think he’s one of, if not the worst GM in the league.

We all know the draft history. Terrible. And apparently he had to be talked into taking mcavoy.
Then you have trading reilly smith for jimmy hayes, and then buying out jimmy hayes
Signing belesky
Signing backes
Having to pay to get rid of both those guys
That horrid Nash trade.
That weird deadline where he gave up a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and a prospect to get lee stempniak and john-Michael liles.
Trading for ritchie
Trading for Kase.
The abomination of an off-season he just had.
Signing John Moore.
Refusing to trade any of his good prospects, while making sure they’re totally blocked by signing mediocre NHL vets.

It’s outrageous that he still has a job. The only thing hes ever been good at is extending his own players.

90% of this list happened 2018 or before. during that period they should have tanked. and reset. his draft history isnt great, and honestly i wasnt a huge mcavoy fan at that time either, personally wanted bean/chychrun in that draft. the frederic pick was bad, and still is bad, 2017 draft vaak was trending reallly really well until he suffered that major concussion, hasnt been the same player since. not really sweeneys fault, sometimes injuries like that happen. studnicka, kids young i thought this was the perfect year to give him a chance, but ide bet you jacobs said its playoffs or bust. swayman was a 4th rounder that year... 2018 draft: axel andersson (book still out on him, dont think hes anything special), lauko (like the player potential middle 6er) 2019 beecher (still have no idea what this kid will be.. likely bottom 6er unfortunately but hes got a unique talent set for sure.) (i wanted hoglander or vlasic fwiw), jake schmaltz is a sneaky okay pick in the 7th round. 2020 draft lohrei was a head scratcher but i love him. think hes got a great nhl career ahead of him, kuntar is a decent prospect in the system for a mid rounder, 2021 lysell should have gone top 10, harrison might end up as a 2c hes doing that well in juniors right now, projects that way currently, he drafted carlo and lauzon, debrusk was looking great until covid and they taylor hall. Zboril was starting to find his place in the nhl this year.

Trades:
he hasnt really won many, hall was the only notable win, but at the same time you cant continually trade 1sts (theyve traded 2 in 6 years of him drafting) and expect him to have quality prospects either. imagine if he had pulled the trigger on a vaak+++ for OEL deal last year like rumored? woof. kase move was fine, the analytics on him were and still are great, he just couldnt stay healthy here which was what happened in anaheim. you gave up a 1st because you signed backes (probably jacobs fault) too long. belesky was a weird signing but he was another one of those guys that had a career year and got paid for it. then got hurt and couldnt rebound. i dont think he was the right fit in our scheme. Dont forget first couple years was with Claude, and next couple were with bruce. theyve had winning teams, theyve made playoffs continually.

Signings:
you can question alot of his overpays for sure, moore was dumbfounding... but maybe the analytics said something we didnt see at the time, i dont think he had a bad offseason by any means this past year. foligno was a weird signing, but i liked the haula/nosek signings, there really wasnt a 2c available, and you have to also give coyle a chance there to see if he works.

dont really know what you expect given where they were picking and scouting/team needs at the time. hindsight is always 20/20. dont forget almost every scout had zboril higher than chabot. senyshyn was the only reach there.

You’re making a LOT of excuses for him. You can’t just say, “ohhhh Jacobs said,” every time he made a bad trade.

He’s been horrible. The hall acquisition was good, and most of his contract extensions have been good.
Drafting - F
Trades - F
UFA signings - F

He’s terrible. Shouldn’t get another job after boston.

All reports are that they’ve agreed to terms. I mean, they’re already taking about the schedule of which games he’ll play. Sounds like they’re trying to figure out when the best time to submit the contract to the league is. Wonky CBA stuff. Taxi squad stuff could come into play. It’s beyond me. The one thing that all reporters seem to agree on is that Tuukka is returning in January.

Sounds good. Realistically with Ullmark being the backup and Swayman sent to Providence?

I think that’s how they finish out the season, look to move ullmark in the off-season, hopefully with someone else in charge.

I’m not going to claim I’ve religiously watched all of colorados games, any reason his numbers are so bad?

A couple of earlier bad starts are really sewering his stats. Washington and Ottawa games. Plus there have been games that garbage goals against, like against Vegas, they were up 7-0 in the 3rd and the ref just kept on putting Vegas back on the PP. End up winning 7-3 (Avs PK haven't been great so he has given up a lot of PP goals which I dont fault him for)

He has had a slower than anticipated start with them, but as the season has gone on he has looked better and better every game. If he wants to extend in Colorado really no reason to pull the plug on him yet

Any concern that he’ll want to test UFA?

I’m not going to claim I’ve religiously watched all of colorados games, any reason his numbers are so bad?

He did struggle there for a while (partially due to some pretty terrible defensive breakdowns by the team), but he's been much better as of late. An optimistic view would be that things have turned the corner. Time will tell. In any case, I think Kuemper has a fair amount of leash remaining.
