Kempe leads the Kings in goals and has about 30% of the cap hit that Kerfoot does after the retained salary. Quite a big difference between 4g and 14g.

You can take him out of the trade if you want, I just threw him in because I figured Toronto would want the cap relief for next season and adding Kempe would make him expendable.

that's true I guess. I would rather them add a guy like Kempe without making a subtraction like Kerfoot tho

And Kempe would be a goal scorer in TO why? If he is in the top 6 the list of better goal scorers is a lot longer in TO than it is in LA. Likely plays with JT and Nylander both of whom are better goal scorers.

Your logic is flawed

I don't understand your argument. Kempe has found a way to score consistently on a team that has struggled to score goals for over a decade, and he has done so while playing within the defense-first system that the Kings play. Put him on a team that plays an offensive system like the Leafs, and his goal scoring goes up, not down. Right now he's on pace for 35g with the Kings. He'd be good for 40+ on the Leafs, while also being able to log minutes on the PP and PK.

Not sure why you seem to think his goal scoring goes down when lined up with "better" players.

Being a good player on a bad team does not make someone a better player on a better team. In TO he wouldn't score more, his opportunities would be far fewer in TO than it is in LA.

Kerfoot is a better playmaker and that works great with Nylander and JT.

I'd argue that LA isn't a bad team, they're just a low scoring one. They're in the top 25% of the league in GA/G. Kempe has found a way to score with the Kings that no LW has been able to do since Luc Robitaille retired.

Kempe is an upgrade over Michael Bunting. Keep Kerfoot with JT and Nyander and put Kempe on a line with Matthews and Marner. Send Nick Ritchie in the trade instead. Like I said above, I only put Kerfoot in the deal because I thought Toronto would want to be rid of his cap hit next season.

Kerfoot is a good player. He isn't a cap dump. He's actually scoring at a higher rate than Kempe and can play well anywhere in the lineup. He's valuable.

For all your pumping Kempe's tires, the best LW since Luc Robitaille, his career high in points is 37. The Leafs don't need him. Not at all. We have fast, defensively responsible wingers for the bottom 6 already. And it didn't cost us a 1st and a good player to get them.

Kempe didn't begin to excel until moved to the wing last season. He's now on pace for 35g and 50p, being one of the only consistently productive players on the team this season. He hasn't played in the bottom six since before the pandemic started.

Like I said, if you want to keep Kerfoot, then replace him with Ritchie in the trade. Neither player would be brought back after their contract expires next season anyway.

I don't think it'll cost a 1st to move Ritchie and even still, I don't see the need for Kempe. In TO he's battling Mikheyev and Engvall for 3rd LW minutes and he makes more than his competition. While being a better player, it still costs too much to obtain him. I am certain Dubas can draft a better player than Kempe with a 1st rounder.
