Auston Matthews is an equal, if not better offensive player who produces extremely well at 5v5, while most of Drais offensive success is a result of Powerplay time. Matthews is light years better than Drai defensively, which in my opinion is much more important than any offensive difference. The race in goals between Matthew and Drai is getting tighter and tighter, which is impressive considering Matthews missed the first 3 games back due to wrist surgery. Anyone who says Toronto says yes is delusional

Matthews is younger, equal to Drai offensively, and light years better defensively. Defense is WAY more important than offensive, and when you've got a guy like Matthews that does both very well you don't let that to. He is going to be a key part of a deep push (if we ever get there)

a lot of teams would probably pick him, but there are teams that would pick bouchard, and i would not be surprised at all if bouchard ends up the better player pretty soon. imo bouchard's higher risk/higher reward whereas like you say, you know what you're getting with girard.

I’ll entertain this notion. I don’t think its realistic, but I’ll entertain it. Couple things to consider:
It’s not like Girard is done developing. He’s a year older than Bouchard.
If Bouchard winds up better, his contract is probably way way more.
Let’s say he winds up the better player, it’s not like it’s going to be by leaps and bounds. His absolute ceiling is probably just a nose better than what Girard is, and again, Girard isn’t done developing either.

I mean aren't we all on here usually saying how dumb NHL gms are?

Bouchard still has a year on his ELC and is a RHD, Oilers are pretty set at LHD for a long time, think I'd just keep Bouchard.

And girard is just a year older, has an awesome contract, has a lower floor, and a higher ceiling. It’s a no brainer.

EDM says no to all of these trades

Draisaitl is already better than Matthews, has an extra year left, and costs 3M less - that's a top 9 forward.

Girard is better than Bouchard now but who's to say Bouchard won't get better in a year. Also 1 more year on ELC, and is a right shot - EDM has tons of LHD in Nurse, Broberg, Niemalienen, Samorukov, etc.

Yamo and DeBrusk are practically at the same poiint right now however Yamo makes a third of what DeBrusk does and will not cost half of what DeBrusks needs to be qualified at next year.

Bouchard is already better defensively and will also produce a 30+ point season this year without PP1 time in his first full year. I'd imagine his next contract would be between 5.5-6.5 for long term, not too much off of Girard for someone who could be a better player.

He’s better according to who? You’re just pulling stuff out of your ass. If Bouchard is that good and produces the next 2 seasons at Girard levels he’s a $7M dman minimum. But regardless the Avs aren’t trading Girard, also what’s your obsession with PP1 time, do you think Girard is playing on PP1 for the Avs or did you miss that they have a guy named Makar on PP1 and guys like Toews and Byram on PP2 to. Get real.

Colorado has no space for Girard and I think that Bouchard can for sure be better than Girard when hitting their primes. Plus having the RHD in Bouchard would make it worth it for sure for Colorado perfectly rounding out their extremely young and talented top 4.

Are you just making **** up. Girard is locked into the Avs top 4. You know next to nothing about Girard because if you did you would know he is better on the right side and has played on the right side whenever Byram is healthy. In addition, the Avs have Barron and Helleson in the pipe line who are right handed so what the hell are you talking about. If Bouchard is all that keep him. Avs still say no.

Other then the contract I disagree and considering Edmontons terrible cap situation they really need another year of Bouchard's ELC and the chance to bridge him at a lower amount till some bad cap comes off the books.

A contract like girards is exactly what edmonton needs. It’s such a no brainer i can’t believe its even being discussed.

When it comes to the oilers and the avalanche, i don’t really care. One is clearly far and away the better asset.

Matthews is untouchable. He's third in the NHL despite playing only 29 games. Trading him for Dri is a side move at best, neither team has a reason to do this but especially Toronto. It get's them nothing.

So do i.

I like Brayden point as a player, but McDavid is better obviously. Same situation here.

It gives the leafs more cap room and Drai is signed for another year over Matthews. Should be a no brainer for the leafs since neither player is better than the other.

No way that Matthews is as good as Drai offensively. Drai is without a doubt the second best offensive player in the league when it comes to producing and making players around him better. He scores goals almost as well as Matthews and sets up his team as well as almost any playmaker in this league. The difference is the defense where Matthews is selke level and Drai is average. In my opinion it's hard to choose one over the other because in my eyes they have the same value. The difference for me would be the contracts.
