Bouchard is younger and is under his ELC for one more year after this year and is playing amazing without PP1 time this year. And this is his first full season and he's already playing top pair minutes. I think he has the potential to better miles better than GIrard. Why do you say no?

Drai is cheaper and has one more year under his contract. In my opinion not one is better than the other but the contracts are the difference maker for me.

COL laughs at that. Girard is locked up long term team friendly and is only what a year and half older.

Girard is better at everything than Bouchard. He’s a really good player. If Bouchard takes a step and somehow becomes a better d man before his ELC expires, he’ll get paid way more than girard. Girard is cost certainty, and is very likely to be the better player over the next 5+ Years.

Girard produces 30 pts a season with no PP1 time at all and is locked up this season and the next 5 on team friendly deal. Even if Bouchard just gets to Girard’s level he is going to make so much for than $5M a year. Girard is good real good, his contract is freaking gold.

Colorado has no space for Girard and I think that Bouchard can for sure be better than Girard when hitting their primes. Plus having the RHD in Bouchard would make it worth it for sure for Colorado perfectly rounding out their extremely young and talented top 4.

You can say any player will be better than any player someday. It’s a pretty hollow argument.

Bouchard is already better defensively and will also produce a 30+ point season this year without PP1 time in his first full year. I'd imagine his next contract would be between 5.5-6.5 for long term, not too much off of Girard for someone who could be a better player.

Edmonton declines the first 2. Girard better than Bouchard at this point mainly defensively, but younger, cheaper, RH keeps them from doing it.

The 3rd is being worked on, EDM does not want do it 1 for 1 for cap purposes, Boston does. They are trying to come up with a multi-player deal that works.

i feel like that’s not the case? he’s got 19 points in 32 games with virtually no PP time, is on an ELC and plays solid defense and is a right shot, not to mention he’s much larger physically than girard which we know GMs love.

Oilers management would think otherwise. They're the only ones that really have seen Bouchard fully this year. He's not as good as Girard right now but playing this well in his first full year is scary good. And he doesn't get enough recognition because this is only his first year.

Oilers management would be having a night on the town to celebrate if they could pull off that trade.

don’t think it really matters, he’s a rookie, teams would be excited about the potential even though he doesn’t play that way yet. dougie’s a finished product at this point but bouchard’s still going to grow a lot as a player and can be coached to take advantage of his size.

Teams would be way more excited about an established 23 year old (hes only a year older than Bouchard after all) in his 6th year full season that can play both sides and has a super team friendly long term deal.

Theres better cost certainty and performance certainty.

I mean aren't we all on here usually saying how dumb NHL gms are?

Bouchard still has a year on his ELC and is a RHD, Oilers are pretty set at LHD for a long time, think I'd just keep Bouchard.

a lot of teams would probably pick him, but there are teams that would pick bouchard, and i would not be surprised at all if bouchard ends up the better player pretty soon. imo bouchard's higher risk/higher reward whereas like you say, you know what you're getting with girard.
